Watch: OnePlus 8 design revealed

A few days ahead of its April 14 launch, OnePlus has teased the design of the OnePlus 8 along with sketches of its full design.

Beautiful to Behold?

The video teaser confirmed that the handsets will feature a Glacial Green color with plenty of curves and neatly placed buttons. 

OnePlus said that for the OnePlus 8 series, it'll use the fifth generation of matte-frosted glass created using a newly crafted process. The company added that it is the company's best CMF to date which is designed to impress anyone who touches it. It has a higher degree of haze so it will come with a smooth and fine texture for better comfort.

The company also flattened the center of the 3D curved glass for a cleaner look. Both sides highlighted the "Horizon Line" design where OnePlus curved the glass just enough to ensure a comfortable grip.

OnePlus also said that it will feature a thinner profile and lighter weight to sit ergonomically and comfortably in the hands.

The new degree of haze will allow the matte-frosted glass to better reflect changes in light sensitivity as well.

The OnePlus 8 is also rumored to be offered in Onyx Black and Interstellar Glow. The OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to come in Onyx Black, Ultramarine Blue, and Glacial Green.

On the other hand, HONOR Play 4T Pro is the more powerful handset. It highlights a 3D curved glass-like back with rectangular camera hump and a 6.3-inch FHD+ 20:9 OLED screen with a notch and an In-Display fingerprint reader.

Under the hood, it is powered by the 2.27GHz 7nm Kirin 810 octa-core processor with DaVinci NPU and Mali-G52 MP6 GPU, 6GB or 8GB RAM, 128G storage, and 4,000mAh battery with USB-C 22.5W fast charging. HONOR said that it can charge the phone from 0 to 58 percent in just 30 minutes.

Huawei taps Nvidia engineers, might make its own GPU

A new report from China revealed that Huawei is setting up a research facility in South Korea with new recruits from Nvidia.

Huawei to make its own GPU soon?

To recall, Huawei already makes its own CPU and AI chips. This report suggests that the Chinese tech titan will likely make its own GPU.

Just note that this GPU might be designed for Huawei's cloud computing and AI businesses. 

Huawei has a powerful chip in this market, the Ascend 910 AI chipset that provides 256 TeraFLOPS for a half-precision floating-point (FP16) operations and 512 TeraOPS for integer precision calculations (INT8), and max power consumption of 310W. But, Nvidia is still dominating in the server-grade GPU market.

This move is not surprising as Huawei's 2012 laboratory has been developing its own custom GPU chip for many years.

If true, making its own GPU should help Huawei be more independent from other companies, especially American companies like Nvidia Corporation.

This move should also satisfy Huawei's own needs as they can fully customize its performance and experience.
