Has the US administration forgotten about the TikTok ban? Nope

The Commerce Department broke its silence on the last possible day

The 90-day deadline imposed upon TikTok owner ByteDance to sell its US assets was up on Thursday, November 12, but the company said it's received no feedback from the US administration committee overseeing the proposed deal in the past two months. ByteDance has therefore applied for a 30-day extension and filed a US Court of Appeals petition seeking clarity on the matter. And finally, the Commerce Department has answered, saying that it wouldn't enforce its order yet.

Here's how to find when you'll have to start forking over money to Google for more storage.

The tool is located at https://photos.google.com/storage

Sony shines the spotlight on the Xperia 5 II's video-capturing capabilities in this short film

These are probably some of the prettiest three minutes you'll ever spend watching YouTube

Android phones have never really been known for exceptional camera quality when it comes to taking videos, but Sony is setting out to change that. The company's newest phone, the Xperia 5 II, starts shipping next month, and it purports to offer the world’s first 4K HDR 120fps slow-motion movie recording from a smartphone. Now Sony has partnered with a former Ubisoft director to release a short film shot entirely on the Xperia 5 II — and wouldn't you know it, it looks pretty darn good.

Its 128GB i3 variant is currently available for only $349 on Walmart, which is $150 off.

DJI announces the Mavic Mini 2 with up to 4K@30fps recording and better transmission range

Still tiny, but pretty powerful

If you've been keeping an eye on drone news lately, it's hard to miss the extensive leaks that revealed the new Mavic Mini 2. It's an upgrade to the original Mini, released almost exactly one year ago that became immediately popular for coming in just under the weight limit that required registration with the FAA, TCCA, and other airspace authorities. DJI has now made it official and is opening up orders.

Google Keep's new icon just hit Android

Don't worry, it's nothing like the new Gmail icon

Google rolled out a whole new set of (uggo) icons for Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Meet last month, and now it's Keep's turn. As teased at the beginning of October, the much-loved and Google app-integrated notes service just picked up a new icon at the desktop site, and we have to assume the app will follow.

Behold. Left: Old icon.

From hyper-nationalism to brazen racism, Micromax’s comeback has started off on the wrong foot

The box you see above is Micromax’s media invite, sent out for its momentous return to India’s smartphone market after a long absence. But the charm of these quirky props all withers away when you read the prominent slogan in transliterated Hindi, “aao karein cheeni kum.” The phrase is used here as a double entendre, as the Hindi word cheeni is used for both sugar and the demonym Chinese, to allusively mean ‘let’s cast out the Chinese.’

Weekend poll: How often do you use the Google Assistant's 'Snapshot' feature?

Or do you even know that it's there?

Back in 2018, Google introduced a "visual snapshot" for the Google Assistant, essentially bringing back some of the functionality that was lost from the old (and much loved) Google Now. Since then, it's seen a handful of tweaks and iterations, with several new features landing in just the last few months. With it built right into the Assistant and Google Search app, how often do you use the feature?

There are a few different ways to access it, but the easiest is to simply activate the Assistant on your phone (either long-pressing the home button or with a corner gesture) and tap the anachronistic-looking inbox icon.

LG Wing review: The fever-dream of a phone that 2020 deserves

An attempt was made

Phones have gotten boring in the last few years, but things are getting weird again, and thank goodness. I have been doing this long enough to remember the last time phones got weird—I've reviewed phones with spring-loaded keyboards, tablet docks, curved bodies, and all manner of multi-screen configurations. After settling on the flat glass slab form factor, OEMs are finally starting to take more risks. No phone better exemplifies this trend than the LG Wing.

The 8 best local music players on Android, now that Google Play Music is dead

As Google's app says "bye bye," it's time to move on to something else

The demise of Google Play Music might have you thinking it's time to go back to the old way of locally storing your favorite music. Fortunately, this is the kind of thing Android was made for, and there are so many apps available that do more than organize your library into a playlist.

A worthy local music playback app for Android has an easily navigable menu structure and automatically populates new music once it's added to a specific file directory.

The Core i5 Pixel Slate's flash storage is failing for several users

Google is aware of the issue and is actively investigating the situation

It's no secret that Google's Pixel Slate has been a colossal disaster since it launched in late 2018. Google was betting big on making a compelling tablet powered by Chrome OS, but the software quirks, egregious price, and awkward tablet experience made it a painful product to use. The good news is that Google fixed most of the weird software bugs with updates, resulting in a much-improved user experience that doesn't nearly impede your workflow as much as it did before.

Google's lack of foresight and strategy is stifling Pixel sales in India

Poor planning is to blame, rather than high prices

When Google announced that its new budget champ, the Pixel 4a, would cost ₹30,000 — a whole 25% less than the Pixel 3a — it felt like Google has finally learned to hit the right note for India. The company nearly checked all the right boxes: the release was well-timed, coinciding with Flipkart’s month-long Diwali extravaganza, and user interest in the phone was right at its peak. It all paid off when the 4a opened to blockbuster sales with units flying off the (virtual) shelves, and then… Google happened.
