Hollywood exec embezzled $22M to gamble on cryptocurrency and play poker

A former digital marketing executive has admitted to embezzling more than $22 million of his employer’s funds to use for cryptocurrency gambling and personal expenses. Cincinnati resident Daniel Bleiden pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft last week. He’d previously served as vice president of accounting and finance at StyleHaul, the seminal digital media company for the fashion, lifestyle, and beauty industries, which shut down earlier this year. The Department of Justice noted that during his time at the company, Bleiden had abused his authority to smuggle company money into his personal bank account, later loading his cryptocurrency…

Why mobile access won’t mend our ‘digital divide’ without fixed-line broadband

Mobile services have had an important and positive impact on developing countries where they are the main means of connecting to the internet. However, mobile services have capacity constraints. They use limited radio frequency spectrum, which means that mobile data typically has usage limits. They also have high prices per unit (per gigabyte), which results in lower use per connection. Fixed-line broadband, on the other hand, has significantly lower prices per unit. It is often offered on an uncapped or unlimited basis and therefore has higher usage per connection. This enables a wider range of services. Fixed lines are expensive…

Huawei unleashed its flagship tablet MatePad Pro in China
Meet the Huawei MatePad Pro

What are the features of Huawei MatePad Pro?

Punch-hole displays have been a common theme for smartphones since last year but the Chinese tech giant is introducing this design to tablets. MatePad Pro is the first to feature this screen design, and this is a premium device that is positioned to compete against iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6.

This tablet sports a 10.8-inch AMOLED panel with a 2560x1600 pixel resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. It is also claimed that the bezels come in at just 4.9mm which results in a 90 percent screen to body ratio. Running by Kirin 990 SoC, MatePad Pro is equipped with a 6GB or 8GB RAM with a storage option of 128GB or 256GB.

For the battery capacity, this has 7,250mAh with support for 40W Huawei SuperCharge, 15W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. This has a 13MP shooter on its rear while an 8MP selfie camera is on the front.

This device runs by Android 10 with EMUI 10 on top. Moreover, the MatePad Pro features a laptop mode that offers a traditional PC interface and multi-window functionality. The M-Pen stylus is also included for more accurate interaction and drawing.

Huawei is bringing its neat multi-screen collaboration mode which allows you to emulate a supported Huawei phone on the tablet’s screen in real-time. The MatePad Pro also has a laptop mode which brings a more traditional PC interface and multi-window functionality.

The Huawei Mate Pad Pro will be sold in four color options: White, Black, Green, and Orange. The price starts at CNY 3,299(PHP 23,821) for the base 6GB/128GB Wi-Fi trim. The LTE versions will start at CNY 3,799 (PHP 27,431) for the 6/128GB model and CNY 4,499 (PHP 32,486) for the 8/256GB version.

How DevOps and security teams can get along better

Agile software development has been with us for nearly two decades since the original Manifesto was published. Software development and IT teams all strive for better software that responds to customer needs, broadly in line with the principles of agile. However, there are still problems that exist around the processes and politics of software.  DevOps can help here, with teams collaborating on how to get software out faster and more efficiently. Yet for IT security teams, the rise of DevOps has led to problems with managing security and risk too. I am reminded of Stealers Wheel’s Stuck in the Middle…

The pros and cons of unsupervised learning in cybersecurity

Cybercriminals continue to disrupt current defense mechanisms through new methods by exploiting vulnerabilities, especially in the overlapping areas of machine and human interactions. Cybersecurity software has matured well in terms of reacting to breaches based on signatures. This mode of operation is not sustainable—especially as bad actors and cybercriminals are creating more new ways to attack security systems than ever before. In many cases, it may take up to six months to even detect a breach—and on top of that, there is an average of nearly 50 days between when a breach is discovered and when it is reported. With the cybercrime industry set…

CHEAP: Good lord, there’s 25% off the latest iPad (IT’S ONLY $250!)

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! I’m a fan of tablets. There’s something about their notepad size and large screen that makes me feel like I’m a professional on some sort of futuristic space ship. Despite this, there is a downside in the real world though: what do you use them for? While tablets are nice to have, I’ve never found them to be a must. Phones are more portable, and laptops are more powerful, kinda leaving much of the technology in a weird grey area. But… this changes with price. For…

Alleged Huawei Nova 6 SE with square camera hump, Kirin 810, 40W charging leaks

Known leaker @RODENT950 has just shared images of an alleged Huawei upcoming smartphone, the Nova 6 SE and it sports an interesting design.
Alleged Huawei Nova 6 SE with square camera hump, Kirin 810, 40W charging leaks
Is this the Nova 6 SE?

Square camera hump, 7nm mid-range chip

Based on the leaked posters, the Nova 6 SE sports a square camera hump to house the quad-camera system. There's an LED flash below the lower-left camera as well.

Alleged Huawei Nova 6 SE with square camera hump, Kirin 810, 40W charging leaks

The design is familiar as it looks like the square camera hump from the iPhone 11 Pro. But to recall, the iPhone 11 Pro camera design is said to be inspired from the Huawei Mate 20

So, apart from the "SE" monicker, we can't really say that Huawei is copying Apple completely.

To my eyes, it has better proportions than the triple coconut holes-like camera placement from the iPhone 11 Pro.

Moving to the front, it sports a punch-hole screen with slim bezels. On the right side of the phone, you'll find that power button/fingerprint reader and the volume keys. Since there is a fingerprint reader on the side, it is safe to assume that Huawei used an LCD panel instead of AMOLED.
Kirin 810, 40W
Kirin 810, 40W

For the specs, the handset sports a 7nm Kirin 810 octa-core processor with DaVinci NPU and 40W SuperCharge fast charging solution.

The rest? We are still unsure for now. If this leak is true, we should learn more about the device in the coming days/weeks/months.
