Samsung’s new mid-range smartphone series set to launch next week

Samsung introduced the Galaxy A 2019 series back in February. Naturally, it was assumed that the company would refresh the lineup in February 2020. However, it looks like Samsung is jumping the gun and releasing the Galaxy A 2020 series as soon as next week.

Samsung Vietnam has put out a video teasing the launch of the Galaxy A 2020 series on December 12. The video doesn’t reveal much about the new A series phones, but shows a device with a centered punch-hole on the display.

If leaks are anything to go by, the Galaxy A51 could be the first phone in the new Galaxy A 2020 series. The phones is the rumored successor to 2019’s Galaxy A50, which we dubbed Samsung’s best mid-ranger at the time.

An exclusive report from 91Mobiles previously revealed that Samsung will launch the mid-range Galaxy A51 in India in December. The Galaxy A51 has also been spotted in an FCC listing and its renders were leaked last month. The phone was seen featuring an Infinity-O display, similar to the one seen in the new Galaxy A 2020 teaser.

The Galaxy A51 is rumored to feature a 6.5-inch OLED display. The back of the device will reportedly feature an L-shaped quad-camera camera array. This setup is expected to house a 48MP sensor and a 5MP macro lens. A 32MP selfie camera is expected on the device.

Other rumored specs include 4GB RAM, the Exynos 9611 SoC, 4,000mAh battery, and 64/128GB storage variants.

Other Galaxy A 2020 series phones

Samsung is tipped to release around eight phones in the Galaxy A 2020 series. These include the Galaxy A71 with four cameras, Galaxy A91 with Snapdragon 855, Galaxy A21, Galaxy A31, Galaxy A61, and the Galaxy A81.

Watch: Gaming with Vivo V17 Pro

To recall, the Vivo V17 Pro is a handset packed with the 11nm 2.0GHz Snapdragon 675 octa-core chip with Adreno 612 GPU. Vivo also added 8GB RAM for multitasking.

While the SoC and RAM weren't upgraded, Vivo added a speedier 128GB UFS 2.1 storage to make your apps and games load faster.

Vivo also noted that it has added some tweaks in its software to make the gaming experience better.

Moreover, this device now has a large 4,100mAh battery coming from just 3,700mAh.

In addition, V17 Pro has a larger 6.44-inch 20:9 cinematic AMOLED display to let you have a better viewing experience.

We tried some graphic intensive games like the NBA 2K20 and the new Call of Duty Mobile and we never had issues on their gameplay.

AND yes, we loaded those games on max settings.

The temperature of its CPU remained at an acceptable level even after playing for quite some time.

We also like that it has the Ultra Game Mode feature.

It has  Game Assistant to enable pop-up for game-related optimizations, game slider for quick controls, allow to enjoy hands-free background calls, reject calls, block notifications, and more.

Our thoughts

The result? At PHP 21,999, for us, the Vivo V17 Pro is a respectable gaming phone despite not having a more powerful chipset.
