Xiaomi Mi 10 will be one of the first smartphones with Snapdragon 865

Mi 10 to come with SD865!

Snapdragon 865 is the new flagship chip of the company to replace the current Snapdragon 855 and 855 Plus processors. While Qualcomm has yet to share its full specs and benchmark scores, SD865 is expected to be one of the most powerful chips in the world.

The announcement of Xiaomi is just a teaser for now. The company has yet to reveal more details about the upcoming successor of the Mi 9.

While it is still early to speculate, we won't be surprised if it will have a 5G variant with 108MP primary camera. We also expect it to upgrade most of the features we loved from the Mi 9 last year and some of its weaknesses like the small battery capacity (even if it has a decent battery life).

Most likely, we will see the new Mi 10 in Q1 2019.

One thing is for sure. We will keep you guys up to date. Stay tuned!

Are you guys excited?

Xiaomi launches Mi Credit personal loan service in India

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi began venturing deeper into the financial sphere earlier this year when it initially launched the Mi Credit pilot in India. Now, it looks like the company is re-launching the service as it moves out of beta.

In a tweet by Xiaomi’s Mi Money Twitter account, the company calls the service “a curated marketplace for lenders.” Xiaomi claims Mi Credit is 100% digital, and it promises a short application process, high acceptance, low interest, free credit checks, and encrypted user data.

To no one’s surprise, Xiaomi Mi Credit’s target audience is Indian Millennials. The company is working with several lending partners to make the service possible, offering loans between Rs. 5,000 (~$70) and Rs. 100,000 (~$1,400).

This isn’t the only time this year a tech company of Xiaomi’s magnitude has further branched out into the financial industry. Both Apple and Google also recently took similar leaps in the form of a credit card and checking account, respectively.

Xiaomi’s Mi Credit financial tech initiative launches right between the two American behemoths’ endeavors. Apple made its credit card available earlier this year, while Google will launch its checking account next year.

All three services cater to different needs in different markets, so they don’t directly compete with one another. But it does make you wonder what other tech companies will make similar business moves in the coming months and years. Only time will tell.

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 865 4G and 765 5G chips

Qualcomm has finally unveiled its next-generation chips for future mobile phones. It includes the flagship Snapdragon 865 4G chip and the mid-range Snapdragon 765 5G chip.

It's a little bit odd that Qualcomm didn't have a Snapdragon 865 variant with integrated 5G. In comparison, both Huawei and MediaTek have a version of their flagship chips with built-in 5G.

But, Qualcomm said that it can be paired with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem, the company's 2nd-gen 7nm 5G modem with sub-6GHz support.

Not much has been shared about the Snapdragon 865 though. What we are sure is it is more powerful than the current Snapdragon 855 Plus chip.

On the other hand, Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon 765 mid-range chips. The interesting part? There is a Snapdragon 865 variant with built-in 5G.

It simply means that we'll see more mid-range phones next year with 5G connectivity and this is Qualcomm's way to make 5G more available to the mass market.

But again, not much was shared about the chip. Qualcomm said that it brings advanced AI processing and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.

We expect Qualcomm partners such as Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Nokia, and more to load with these chips next year.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Watch: Performance-enhancing AI could change baseball forever

Meet Tipper, a convolutional neural network that lives on an Nvidia AI card. Its creator says it can predict whether a baseball pitch will land inside or outside of the strike zone. Tipper was developed by Nick Bild, a serial creator who seems to have an unquenchable thirst to create and innovate. He makes apps, trains neural networks, and literally has a gold badge in ‘problem solving’ on HackerRank. He says he was inspired to build Tipper while sitting idle in traffic, pondering the world from an engineer’s point of view. Here’s how Tipper works, according to Bild’s GitHub page:…
