Build/Design - Vivo S1 Pro features a smooth glasstic material at the back and a polycarbonate frame. It actually feels more premium thanks to its unique diamond-shaped camera hump.

Samsung Galaxy A50s also has a 3D curved glasstic back with prism design and a polycarbonate frame.

This category is pretty close. Both devices offer good looking and premium-feeling design with Vivo pulling a bit ahead with the presence of dual-layer Schott Xensation UP glass + Gorilla Glass protection. S1 Pro also has IPX2 water splash resistance.
AMOLED screens!
AMOLED screens!

Display - The Galaxy A50s has a 6.4-inch 2.5D Super AMOLED screen w/ FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution at 403 ppi.

Vivo S1 Pro has a 6.38-inch 2.5D curved Schott Xensation UP glass + Gorilla Glass protected Super AMOLED screen with FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution at 404 ppi.

Both devices have small dewdrop style notches up top as well as an In-Display fingerprint sensor.

Both can produce colors and contrasts that are hard to beat at this price point. A close match.

Specs - The Samsung Galaxy A50s has a decent 2.3GHz Exynos 9611 processor with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU while Vivo S1 Pro Pro has a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 665 octa-core processor and an Adreno 610 GPU.

The RAM advantage goes to Vivo S1 Pro with 8GB. Both have expandable 128GB storage.

Realme 5 Pro has a bigger 4500mAh and a faster charging 18W Dual Engine fast charge compared to the Galaxy A50s 4,000mAh and 15W fast charging.

Cameras - Both are equipped with 48MP primary cameras. However, Vivo S1 Pro has a brighter sensor.

In particular, Galaxy A50s uses a 48MP f/2.0 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens + 5MP depth sensor w/ AF and LED flash. Vivo S1 Pro has 48MP f/1.79 Sony IMX586 + 8MP f/2.25 119-degree ultra wide-angle + 2MP f/2.4 4cm macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth w/ LED flash.

Samsung Galaxy A50s advantages - Slightly bigger display, higher-clocked chip
Vivo S1 Pro advantages - IPX2 water splash resistance, bigger RAM, bigger battery with 18W Dual Engine fast charging, more powerful quad-cameras

Our thoughts

Vivo S1 Pro offers an FHD+ Super AMOLED screen, a 48MP quad-camera setup, a bigger battery, and a bigger RAM for less.

Samsung Galaxy A50 also has an FHD+ Super AMOLED screen, slightly higher clocked chip, a 48MP triple-camera setup, and decent overall specs.

It is a great match overall as both devices offer a good package for the price.

We just need to do an actual test to determine the winner in real-life usage.

Samsung unleashes Galaxy A51 and A71 with punch-holes and quad-cams!
Galaxy A51 and A71

The handset packs key upgrades in design, specs, and cameras versus the 2019 A50/s and A70/s.

Both now highlights a Galaxy Note10+ looking punch-hole screen in the middle and rear-facing quad-cameras.

Galaxy A51

First is the Galaxy A51, the handset now uses a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and 20:9 cinematic aspect ratio and an In-Display fingerprint reader. Under the hood, I'm disappointed that it is still using the 10nm Exynos 9611 octa-core processor, the same chipset found on the older A50s.

It is paired with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage expandable to 512GB via microSD, and 4,000mAh battery with USB-C 15W fast charging.

For the cameras, it now has four cameras at the back. It goes with a 48MP f/2.0 primary camera w/ PDAF, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide cam, 5MP f/2.4 macro camera, and 5MP f/2.2 depth camera w/ LED flash.

It also has support for Super Steady Video, and Live Video modes.

For selfies, it has a 32MP f/2.0 shooter.

As expected, it has WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, dual SIM, and Android 10 OS w/ OneUI 2.0 skin.

Galaxy A71 key specs and highlights

Galaxy A71
Galaxy A71

As expected, the Galaxy A71 boasts a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ screen with 20:9 aspect ratio and an In-Display fingerprint reader. Inside, it is powered by the speedier 64-bit Snapdragon 730 octa-core processor with Adreno 618 GPU.

The phone has 6GB or 8GB RAM, 128GB expandable storage up to 512GB via microSD, and 4,500mAh battery with USB-C 25W fast charging support.

For the cameras, it highlights a 64MP f/1.8 primary camera with PDAF focus, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, 5MP f/2.4 macro camera, and 5MP f/2.4 depth camera.

Like the A51, it has support for Super Steady Video, and Live Video modes.

For selfies, you get a 32MP f/2.2 front camera.

The Galaxy A51 is priced at VND 7,990,000 or about PHP 17.6K out of straight conversion. It will be available in Vietnam on December 27.

On the other hand, Galaxy A71 has no SRP yet.

Huawei FreeBuds 3 is the new TWS to beat, here are the 5 reasons why!

Apart from making good smartphones and laptops, Huawei has recently released a strong contender in the world of portable audio, the FreeBuds 3, a TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earphones.
Huawei FreeBuds 3

In fact, in our review, we concluded that it is considered a steal for the features and audio quality despite its PHP 8,990 pride tag.

Why? It has the ability to beat or compete with even more expensive TWS offerings from Apple and more.

So, in case you are interested in getting one, here's a quick recap of its highlights.

Huawei FreeBuds 3 is the new TWS to beat, here are the 5 reasons why!

Circular charging case
Circular charging case

1. Pocketable case, Dolphin Bionic Design - Unlike TWS buds, the FreeBuds 3 features a slim and tiny circular charging case. It is pocketable and stylish at the same time. Moreover, it is rich in features. It serves as a pairing/charging dock as well.

For the earbuds, Huawei incorporated the Dolphic Bionic Design to enhance fit, isolation, comfort, and sound reproduction.

The result is it made the FreeBuds 3 one of the most comfortable earbuds to wear. One snap on your ear and you are good to go. Also, it fits most ears with ease even if it doesn't have a foam sleeve.

Huawei made that possible by ensuring that it sits deeper than most earbuds.
14.2mm dynamic drivers

2. Large 14.2mm dynamic drivers, good mic quality - For audio, the Bionic Dolphin Design and the large 14.2mm along with the Kirin A1 chip with dual-channel Bluetooth 5.1 made it produce stellar audio for a wireless earphones.

It can go really loud as it is easy to drive with your PC, Mac, or smartphone. It is highly detailed and should fit a lot of song genres. My favorite part is it has a wide soundstage despite its small size.

To sum its audio up, it is small in size, but big in sound.

The microphone is quite good as well. It uses an "Aerodynamic Mic Duct Design" to let users experience clearer calls even on a windy day and even cycling at 20 km/h and a built-in bone voice sensor to make your clear during the phone calls and reduce background noise.

In our test, we were able to experience crystal clear calls with almost no lag.
Easy connectivity

3. Stable connectivity and ANC - While the earbuds are best to use with Huawei devices due to some Huawei-only advanced controls (such as the instant pairing feature), FreeBuds 3 has one of the most stable connectivity around for any source with Bluetooth connectivity.
The app
The app

Thanks to its Kirin A1 chip, the lag on calls, games, and playing music is nearly non-existent.

Plus, unlike the AirPods 2, the FreeBuds 3 has AI-assisted ANC (active noise cancellation).

According to Huawei, it offers up to 15dB of active noise cancellation. In comparison, that is nearly as good as in-ear earphones with deep ear insertion. The isolation that it can provide is impressive for earbuds.

It even has an app where you can adjust the noise-canceling depending on your ear shape. It is designed to give users a customized noise-canceling solution as each

4. Good battery life, fast USB-C charging, wireless charging - To let you enjoy the FreeBuds 3 better. Huawei ensured that it has a decent battery life. The company claimed that even if it has a stable connection (normally consumes more power), the FreeBuds 3 has good battery performance, thanks to the Kirin A1 chip.

Each earpiece has 30mAh of battery that is usually good up to 4 hours of battery life. With ANC, battery drains a bit faster, but it can still last for over 3 hours. The battery case can even give you an extra 16 hours of usage.

15 minutes of charge can give you 2.5 hours of playback. 30 minutes of charge can give you up to 14 hours of playback via wired charging.

Moreover, the charging case can be charged via USB-C at 6W or 2W wirelessly.
Chill time with FreeBuds 3

5. More affordable than the competition - At PHP 8,990, not cheap. But for a premium earbuds, it is affordable for the design, features, and audio quality. It is one of the best for connectivity regardless of price as well.

Other FreeBuds competitors such as AirPods 2 is more expensive with PHP 9,490 starting price. Sony WF-1000XM3 is priced at PHP 12,990. AirPods 2 Pro is PHP 14,990.

Note: You can buy the FreeBuds 3 on 12.12 for just PHP 6,990, read here.

According to XDA Developers Editor-in-Chief Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, the Moto G8 Power is code-named “sofia” and features the same Snapdragon 665 processor found in the Moto G8 Plus.

The best new Netflix Christmas specials for 2019

merry happy whatever christmas netflix

There are already a ton of old and new Netflix Christmas movies to stream this holiday season. However, if you really want to go overboard with holiday content, Netflix has dropped a ton of Christmas Netflix specials and holiday-themed TV shows to watch as well.

Here’s a quick look at the new Netflix Christmas specials and Netflix Christmas TV shows that made their debut in 2019. As you will see, there’s a lot of variety, from sitcoms to baking specials.

1. Merry Happy Whatever

Getting together with family for Christmas can sometimes get awkward. That’s the theme of this eight-episode limited sitcom series. Matt, played by Brent Morin, wants to marry his girlfriend Emmy, played by Bridgit Mendler. They travel to Emmy’s hometown of Philadelphia for the holidays, and Matt meets Emmy’s very strict and skeptical father, played perfectly by Dennis Quaid. The show is meant to be funny, but it’s also a mirror into the lives of many families who have to deal with different issues during Christmas. It’s perhaps the best of the new Netflix Christmas specials and TV shows.

2. Home for Christmas

Home for Christmas is pretty much the exact opposite of Merry Happy Whatever. This comedy series from Norway (with English dub) centers on 30-year old Johanne, the last single person in her large family. During a family dinner, she tells the assembled members she has a boyfriend. She doesn’t, of course, and now she only has a few weeks to get a real boyfriend to take to the family’s Christmas celebrations.

3. Three Days of Christmas

three days of christmas

This is a three-episode series in Spanish (with English dubs). It focuses on four sisters who gather together in three different Christmas time periods (1949, 1969, and modern-day). The first episode shows the sisters having to deal with a traumatic event, and how they keep it secret. It’s not your standard holiday fare, but it will make you think about the tightness of family during Christmas.

4. Nailed It! Holiday

The popular baking show on Netflix launches a new Christmas-themed series of six episodes for 2019. As per the regular series, Nailed It! Holiday features three “bakers” in each episode. They are asked to replicate holiday-themed items like an angel-shaped waffle cone tree topper and a Dr. Seuss-inspired look at green eggs and ham mini-cakes. Fans of this series know that these bakers are not exactly skilled, and that’s where the humor comes into play.

5. Sugar Rush Christmas

Sugar Rush is the Netflix show with real, and highly skilled bakers. This year, the show has a Netflix Christmas special series of six episodes. The bakers are tasked with making great tasting treats based on, among other things, Christmas trees and edible ugly sweaters. This is definitely one of the best new Netflix Christmas specials and TV shows.

6. The Great British Baking Show – Holidays

the great british baking show holidays

The popular UK series launched its second holiday season as two Netflix Christmas specials. Both episodes brought back bakers from previous seasons of The Great British Baking Show. The bakers are asked to make more refined holiday items like iced biscuits, snow eggs, and even a New Year’s resolution cake. After the somewhat silly Nailed It! and Sugar Rush holiday specials, this is a nice change of pace.

7. Holiday Secrets

holiday secrets

It’s yet another limited series about a family getting together for Christmas. This German series (with English dub) has three generations of women who travel to a remote family house for the holidays. It’s not exactly a happy reunion as many of them have some deep resentments and secrets. The show also bounces back and forth in time, in between the present and the past, as these secrets are slowly revealed. It’s definitely the most serious of the new Netflix Christmas specials and TV shows.

8. Spirit Riding Free: Spirit of Christmas

This Netflix Christmas special is strictly for the kids, and that’s a good thing. Based on the Spirit Riding Free animated series, this holiday special features the main cast, Lucky, Pru, and Abigail, as they travel from the frontier to the city to get Christmas presents for their family members. If your kids are fans of the TV show, this is a must-watch for Christmas.

That’s a look at the best new Netflix Christmas specials and TV shows for 2019. Remember, there are also a ton of original Netflix Christmas movies being released this year as well.
