Woah, Samsung's 8K QLED TV 2020 is almost bezel-less!
Designed to seamlessly blend in the design of your home

Wild, 99 percent of screen-to-body ratio!

Samsung hasn't revealed its screen size yet, but the company noted that it achieved the feat with the use of a new Infinity Screen. The insane thing about that is it looks like all-screen from afar with no black borders on the side.

To be exact, Samsung claimed that it has a whopping 99 percent screen-to-body ratio. Even smartphones don't have that screen ratio.

The new TV also has the company's AI Quantum chip that can upscale any content to 8K resolution.

It also goes with the OTS + (Object Tracking Sound Plus) tech designed to deliver 5.1-like surround sound even without external speakers. The company claimed that it was made possible by recognizing moving objects in the video then it will move and sync the sound in its built-in speakers.

In addition, it has the AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) to recognize ambient noise and adjust the volume of the video speaker's voice. It is designed to help users avoid missing their favorite drama lines even when the surroundings are noisy.

It will also have a "Q-Symphony" feature designed to find the best sound by using both the TV and the soundbar's speakers.

The 8K TV also has the "TV Plus" that provides more than 120 global channels for FREE, "multi view" feature for multitasking while watching TV, "Tap View" to easily mirror your smartphone tot he TV, "Digital Butler" function to recognize and control devices connected via WiFi, Bluetooth, and older devices not connected to the Internet, an optimized Bixby to Amazon, Alexa, and Google Assistant, and Samsung Health app to manage workouts and fitness content.

Jabra’s sporty new true wireless earbuds cost $199

Jabra announced a pair of new audio offerings at CES, both new entries in its Elite wireless range of devices, the Jabra Elite 45h and Elite Active 75t.

The Jabra Elite 45h ($99) are wireless on-ear headphones that don’t cost an arm and a leg, something of a rarity among products announced at CES. The Elite Active 75t are a sportified version of the previously announced Elite 75t true wireless earbuds, and at $199, they’re decidedly less cheap.

These new true wireless earbuds bring a host of improvements over the Jabra Elite Active 65t, the company’s previous workout ‘buds. The Elite Active 75t features 7.5 hours of playback time on a single charge, increased to 28 hours with the included charging case — apparently an 89% increase over the previous model. These earbuds are now IP57 rated, meaning they’re waterproof and resistant to dust and sweat, which is perfect for all kinds of exercise. They also feature redesigned tips meant for improved isolation, so you won’t have to worry about the distracting grunts of other people at the gym.

Jabra Elite Active 75t

In Q2 2020, the Elite Active 75t will also gain access to Jabra MySound, a feature debuting with the Jabra Elite 45h. MySound was developed by Jabra and its sister company GN Hearing, which specializes in hearing aids, and it’s meant to tailor audio to individual listeners needs. Once the headset is available, you’ll be able to set up MySound using the Jabra Sound+ app by taking a test that uses a series of beeps to determine an individual’s ideal sound and then tailors the headphones audio profile to match.

Outside of the gym, Jabra is pushing the Elite 45h as a great on-the-go option. For just $99, these on-ear headphones bring 40mm dynamic drivers, a two-microphone array, and Google Assistant, Siri, and Amazon Alexa integration to a lightweight frame. They can handle more than 40 hours of playback on a single charge, and according to Jabra 15 minutes of charging will get you 8 hours of battery life.

“Portability is the name of the game,” said Jabra CEO Rene Svendsen-Tune in a press release. Flitting from work to home and commuting several times a day means quality music and call experience on-the-go is a must.”

Svendsen-Tune describes the Jabra Elite 45h as “the most portable, long-lasting, powerful and compact headphones that are as light on your wallet as they are in your hands.”

With battery life that long, a foldable frame that weighs just 6 ounces, and Bluetooth 5.0 support, it’s not hard to see why. The Jabra Elite 45h and Elite Active 75t come out February 2020 for $99 and $199 respectively, available from Amazon, Best Buy, and Jabra in a wide range of colors.

Withings ScanWatch launches with real, honest-to-goodness sleep apnea detection

withings scanwatch spo2 sensor

Withings, the ex-Nokia health and fitness company, has been making some of our favorite hybrid smartwatches as of late. The Withings Move and Move ECG both won awards from Android Authority for their understated design and powerful health features. We had two main gripes with both watches: They were both prone to scratching due to their plastic builds, and they didn’t provide really any smartwatch features. Luckily, the new Withings ScanWatch fixes those complaints and adds some useful new health and fitness features in the process.

The Withings ScanWatch is the very first clinically validated hybrid smartwatch that can assist in detecting arrhythmia (AFib) and sleep apnea. AFib — the irregular beating of one’s heart that can lead to blood clotting and stroke — and sleep apnea — a sleep disorder where breathing rapidly starts and stops — are common disorders that often go unnoticed by patients and doctors. The Withings ScanWatch will attempt to monitor for both of these conditions and notify you if it senses anything out of the ordinary.

withings scanwatch ecg electrocardiogram reading 2 withings scanwatch ecg recording iphone withings scanwatch ecg recording health mate 2

It does so with its built-in electrocardiogram (ECG), just like the one found in the Withings Move ECG. Just place two fingers on the sides of the watch bezel, hold still for a few seconds, and the watch will take an ECG reading which you can see in the Health Mate app or on the small watch display.

Afterwards, you can print out a graph of your ECG to send to your doctor, or send it to them in PDF form. I tested this in my Move ECG review, and the process really couldn’t be any simpler.

The ScanWatch also has a new early warning detection feature, which will allow it to continually monitor your heart rate through the built-in PPG sensor. If the watch notices anything abnormal throughout the day, it’ll let you know.

Withings included an SpO2 sensor in the ScanWatch too. This sensor measures your oxygen saturation levels throughout the night and will let you know if you’re experiencing any sleep apnea episodes. And like other sleep trackers, the Withings ScanWatch will provide detailed sleep analysis like duration, depth regularity, and interruptions.

withings scanwatch heart rate sensor 4 withings scanwatch brown leather on wrist withings scanwatch black silicone on wrist

The ScanWatch looks like the older Withings Steel HR hybrid watches, only the ScanWatch has a more refined design. It has a larger PMOLED display for showing notifications, heart rate, and more. Navigating around the device should be easier thanks to the new rotatable crown on the right side of the case. You’ll get smartphone notifications on your wrist, as well as vibration alarms.

$250 isn't a bad price to pay for a watch with this many features.

This seems to be a much higher quality hybrid watch than others we’ve seen recently — the case is made of 316L stainless steel, and the front watch glass is made of sapphire glass. Withings also threw in connected GPS functionality as well as a 5ATM water resistance rating.

And, due to that low-power display, the battery is rated to last roughly 30 days on a single charge. Even with the SpO2 sensor recording your blood oxygen levels overnight, the watch will still last over two weeks.

The Withings ScanWatch will be available in the US and Europe (pending FDA and CE clearance) in Q2 2020 for €249/£229/$249 for the 38mm model and €299/£279/$299 for the 42mm model. You’ll be able to find them on Withings.com and Amazon in multiple color options.

Personally, I think $249 is a fine price to pay for the ScanWatch. I didn’t like how the Move ECG was easily scratched and made of plastic, so I’m happy to pay more for a device that’s made of sapphire and stainless steel.

The big question, though, is how quickly Withings will be able to get the ScanWatch FDA and CE certified. The Move ECG took eight months to clear CE certification, and it’s still not officially released in the US. Withings’ CEO, Mathieu Letombe, hopes the company will be able to clear certification quicker than that. “We believe that it will go smoother with the FDA because we learned a lot last year. At no point were there any issues with the performance of the Move ECG — it was really about the process itself and how you have to adapt the documentation for the FDA,” said Mathieu Letombe in an interview with Android Authority at CES. “There are many little details that take a lot of time to get together to come up with the right documentation required by the FDA.”

We’ll have a review unit soon enough, so stay tuned for more coverage! In the meantime, check out all the other CES 2020 announcements below.

Fitness watch company Suunto just released its first Wear OS watch

suunto 7 wear os smartwatch header

Suunto, a Finnish company known for making some of the finest sports watches you can buy, has just announced its very first Wear OS watch, the Suunto 7. It’s pricey, but it has the most top-of-the-line features you can expect from any Wear OS watch right now.

Before you ask, yes, the Suunto 7 is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC and has 1GB of RAM. That’s about the bare minimum we expect Wear OS watches to have in order to run the software smoothly — anything less spells poor performance. Elsewhere, you get ~4.5GB of user accessible storage for music and apps, as well as Google Pay support. There’s no LTE model available, so you’ll need to rely on a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection to reach your phone.

However, that may not be an issue. The biggest selling point of the Suunto 7 is its sporty nature, and Suunto really packed this watch full of outdoor features. It has a built-in GPS with support for offline outdoor maps, as well as support for Suunto Heatmaps — frequently traveled paths by Suunto users — across 15 different activities. A barometric altimeter and optical heart rate sensor round out its sensors.

The benefit of using a non-Wear OS smartwatch is that they’re usually able to last much longer on a charge (Wear OS is very power hungry). The company says the Suunto 7 will last 12 hours in GPS mode and 48 hours in normal use. That’s a far cry from other GPS watches like the Suunto 5 and Garmin Forerunner series, but on par with what other Wear OS champions offer.

The watch has a total of four buttons around the case: one on the left, three on the right. The top left button will cycle through your most frequently used apps; the top right lets you choose sport modes; the middle button is the home button and can be used as a rotatable crown; and the bottom right button is customizable. Personally, I love smartwatches with physical buttons (I don’t like messing with touchscreens while running) so I’m happy to see plenty of buttons here.

If you’re interested and want to pick one up for yourself, the Suunto 7 goes on sale Friday, January 31 for $499. It’ll be sold on Suunto.com, in REI stores and online, and in Best Buy stores and online.

Suunto 7
There's a new outdoor Wear OS watch in town, and it's made by Suunto. The Suunto 7 Wear OS watch packs a GPS, offline maps support, and much more.

Suunto isn’t trying to appeal to the average user with its new Wear OS watch. The average user, or really anyone else who wants a Wear OS watch for everything but fitness, should probably buy the Fossil Gen 5.

Rather, the Suunto 7 is for people who want a GPS outdoor watch but don’t want to sacrifice on smartwatch features. In the past, Suunto, Garmin, Fitbit, and Polar have focused on beefing up their own operating systems to play catch up to Wear OS and Watch OS. Since Google’s ecosystem already has the difficult stuff covered (mainly app partnerships), it was a smart move for Suunto to jump onboard with Wear OS.

We’re going hands-on with the Suunto 7 at CES 2020 in the coming days, so stay tuned!
