India’s government allegedly fueled a bogus campaign to garner support by offering ‘free Netflix’
Last week, leaders of the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) of India tweeted out a toll-free number for people to call and show their support for the upcoming Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, later, several accounts – allegedly directed by the BJP – tweeted the same number, offering free Netflix subscriptions and hotlines to chat with ‘lonely women.’ For the uninitiated, CAA is an upcoming law that grants citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from select neighboring countries. Clubbed with the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), it poses a threat to minorities in the country. The introduction of this law has…

Acer ConceptD 7 offers plenty of power for creators
Last year Acer introduced its ConceptD range of laptops, built with creators and designers in mind. Ahead of the official kickoff of CES 2020, Acer is back with several new ConceptD devices, as well as refreshed Spin laptops, a trio of new monitors, and two new TravelMate laptops.
Earlier today we spent some time with Acer’s latest, so let’s jump in and take a look at what’s new.
Acer Concept D7 Ezel and Ezel Pro
The biggest announcement from Acer is the debut of the Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel, a convertible notebook that has a screen that can swivel, allowing you to use it in a variety of different ways. In addition to typical convertible viewing modes — like tablet, tent, and laptop views — you can also position the tablet portion upward so you can access the keyboard while still using the display as an easel (seen below.) And yes, the tablet does include a Wacom EMR digital pen designed for use on the 15.6-inch 4K IPS touchscreen display.
The design is fairly attractive, made of metal with a white coating that helps resist scratches and fingerprints. The laptop is designed for a very specific type of user (such as an architect or artist), but the actual design looks good and seems reasonably durable based on my short time with it. While the laptop is a bit heavy (around 3 pounds), there’s an incredible amount of power here.
Under the hood, you’ll find a brand new 10th-gen Intel Core H-Series processor, Nvidia RTX 2070 or 2080 graphics, up to 32GB of DDR memory, and storage up to a 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD. There’s a reasonable amount of ports too — two Thunderbolt 3 ports, an SD card slot, a DisplayPort 1.4 output, and an HDMI 2.0 port.
While the 7 Ezel is already a workhorse, those that need even more have the option of picking the Acer Concept D7 Ezel Pro. While the design is the same, the Pro model will offer an Intel Xeon processor, Nvidia Quadro RTX graphics, ECC memory support, and includes Windows 10 Pro.
In addition to the Concept D laptops, Acer showed off a Xeon E-powered ConceptD 700 workstation that is designed to address the needs of filmmakers, animators, engineers, and designers. The design stands out thanks to the top panel, which has a wood-like design and has a built-in wireless charging pad.
The Acer ConceptD 7 will launch in North America and Europe, though there are no specifics on the exact timeframe. The laptop will start at $2,699, with the Pro variant starting at $3,099. We don’t know the US pricing or release details for the ConceptD 700 workstation, but the desktop will be available in Europe in March starting at €1,699 (~$1,897.87.)
New Spin models
Moving on from the ConceptD series, new versions of the Spin 5 and Spin 3 are also debuting at CES. Both laptops feature 10th-generation Intel Core processors and have a fast-charging Active Stylus with Wacom AES 1.0 technology. The Spin 5 also an upgraded option that features Wacom AES 2.0, which should result in a better writing/drawing experience.
For those that have a WiFi 6 compatible router, you’ll be happy to know both models offer support. The two Spin models generally offer very similar specs, but the screen and battery differ. The Spin 5 has a 13.5-inch 2K touch display and claims to provide 15 hours of battery life. The Spin 3 has a 14-inch HD display and Acer claims it can provide up to 12 hours of battery life (with support for fast-charging).
The Acer Spin 5 will arrive in the US in June starting at $899, while the Acer Spin 3 will arrive in April starting at $699.
Acer TravelMate P2 and P6
Acer also announced two new business laptops from its TravelMate series, the TravelMate P2 and P6.
The TravelMate P2 and P6 both feature 10th-gen Intel processors and comply with the MIL-STD-810G standard. They also both feature Nvidia GeForce processors, with the P2 packing an MX230 and the P6 offering a MX250.
The Acer TravelMate P2 features WiFi 6 and 4G LTE (nano-sim or eSIM), and claims to get up to 13 hours of battery life. There’s also Windows Hello facial recognition built-in.
The TravelMate P6 is the sleeker and more expensive of the two. The P6 weighs just a little less than 2.5 pounds and is just .6-inches. It also offers instant wake and Wi-Fi 6 support. However, the most impressive feature is the battery — which reportedly offers up to 23 hours of battery life and can fast charge to 50% in roughly 45 minutes.
The Acer TravelMate P2 will first arrive to China and the EMEA this January. The P2 arrive to the US a little later in February, starting at $699.99. The Acer TravelMate P6 will arrive to China first, with a February launch for the US and the EMEA. The P6 will start at $1,149.99.
A trio of monitors
It wasn’t just new laptops, Acer also had three new monitors to show off. First, we have the Predator X32, which features Nvidia G-Sync technology, VESA DisplayHDR 1400 certification, and represents 99% of the Adobe RGB spectrum and 89.5% of the Rec2020 spectrum.
Next, we have the Predator CG552K, a 55-inch 4K OLED monster that’s Adaptive Sync and HDMI VRR (variable refresh rate) compatible. Lastly, the Predator X38 has a 37.5-inch 2300R curved UWQHD panel with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification.
The new monitors will be priced $3559, $2999, and $2399 respectively.
That’s it from Acer. Does anything catch your eye? Let us know in the comments.

Xiaomi responds to Mijia camera security issue
Xiaomi's home security cameras |
The explanation behind the Xiaomi Mijia camera's glitch
A photo of a sleeping baby captured by the camera's owner |
Xiaomi has always prioritized our users' privacy and information security. We are aware there was an issue of receiving stills while connecting Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p on Google Home hub. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to our users.
Our team has since acted immediately to solve the issue and it is now fixed. Upon investigation, we have found out the issue was caused by a cache update on December 26, 2019, which was designed to improve camera streaming quality. This has only happened in extremely rare conditions. In this case, it happened during the integration between Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p and the Google Home Hub with a display screen under poor network conditions.
We have also found 1044 users were with such integrations and only a few with extremely poor network conditions might be affected. This issue will not happen if the camera is linked to the Xiaomi’s Mi Home app.
Xiaomi has communicated and fixed this issue with Google and has also suspended this service until the root cause has been completely solved to ensure that such issues will not happen again.

Belkin’s new GaN chargers can power your MacBook Pro in a tiny package
CES is always full of new gizmos and gadgets, but one thing a lot of people don’t talk about is the improvements to smaller things like chargers. Belkin has a huge number of new chargers and other accessories at the show, but probably the most interesting is its new line of gallium-nitride (GaN) chargers.
Belkin’s new line of Boost Charge chargers come in three speeds for ultra-fast charging. You can get them in 30W, 60W, and 68W variants, all of which are surprisingly small for the amount of power they provide. Belkin touts the 60W charger as one of the smallest chargers that will work for the MacBook Pro, though it won’t charge quite as fast as most of the stock chargers.
Gallium-nitride is much more efficient than traditional chargers, with up to 40% less power loss. This means you can pump a lot more power into your device with a much smaller device. Now that the technology is finally maturing and cheap enough to mass-produce, you’ll start to see it much more often in consumer devices.
Belkin says its new Boost Charge GaN chargers will range between £34.99-£59.99 and will be available starting in April.
Besides these GaN chargers, Belkin is introducing a huge range of other products at the show as well. It’s announcing 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh power banks, a 3-in-1 wireless charger for the iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch, a 10W wireless charging stand-speaker combo, dual 10W wireless charging pads, and a 10W wireless car charger. All of these products will be available by May of 2020.
