The upcoming Kirin 820 mid-range chip is as fast as Snapdragon 855

Just a few days after HONOR announced that the HONOR 30S will go official on March 30, a phone with the upcoming Kirin 820 5G chip, Chinese website IT Home recently obtained the alleged Geekbench performance of the upcoming Huawei mid-range SoC.

A 5G mid-range chip with 2019 flagship speed

The exciting thing about it? It showed that the said mid-range chip is even faster than the Kirin 980 2018 flagship chip and fast the Snapdragon 855 2019 flagship SoC.

Like the Snapdragon 855, the Kirin 820 achieved a Multi-Core Score of 11,200. In comparison, Kirin 980 only got 10,200. For the Single-Core performance, it has the highest of the bunch with a high-score of 3,490. Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855 scored 3,360 and 3,450, respectively.

That's impressive as phones with either SD855 or Kirin 980 are flagship devices like the Huawei P30 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro.

IT Home added that the Kirin 820 will be based on the 7nm manufacturing processor with Cortex-A76 cores and Mali-G77 GPU. It'll also have Huawei's DaVinci NPU and improved ISP.

If this report is accurate, the said chip could be a game-changer as it'll provide 2019 flagship speed on 2020 mid-range phones.

Kirin 810 is still super good even up to this date and this is shaping up to be even better.

What do you guys think?

Sequencing the DNA of coronavirus-screened patients might save lives

Scientists should start sequencing the genomes of coronavirus patients. We should look for DNA differences between patients who are severely affected and those with mild symptoms. This could allow us to predict who else would be vulnerable and advise them to take precautions. We may be able to use this knowledge against the coronavirus epidemic before a vaccine is widely available. In particular, it would be valuable to know if key DNA variations are shared by those rare people who are young and appeared to be healthy but developed severe symptoms from the coronavirus. We might then be able to…

India’s courts are switching to video conferencing to hear cases

In terms of the number of registered coronavirus per country, India is quite far down the list. However, the government isn’t taking the pandemic lightly as the virus can spread rapidly. So, after observing a nationwide 14-hour curfew on Sunday, various state governments have issued orders for lockdown until March 31. While the disease has affected daily wage workers and office goers, it has also made it tough for the judicial system to operate on a normal basis. So, to minimize any possible viral transmission, India‘s Supreme Court said today that it’ll only address important matters through video conferencing. The apex…

Amazon Prime Video finally gets one of Netflix’s most basic features

Amazon Prime Video app on Pixel 3 XL phone

Netflix and Hulu have offered profile support for years now, but it’s a feature that Amazon Prime Video has inexplicably lacked for ages. Thankfully, it looks like the function has gone live for some users now.

Gadgets 360 spotted profile support in Amazon Prime Video (h/t: XDA-Developers), and confirmed that you can create up to six profiles compared to Netflix’s limit of five. Hulu, meanwhile, also offers support for six profiles in total.

It’s a pretty big deal because profiles allow each user to have their own recommendations, watch history, and more. The inability to create profiles in Prime Video means you can’t keep track of the shows you watched, where you left off, and it wreaks havoc with your recommendations.

Amazon Prime Video profiles are reportedly available in selected markets right now, so you might have to wait a while if your market isn’t supported.

This isn’t the only recent Prime Video news, as Amazon has confirmed that it will follow Netflix by reducing video quality in Europe. The move comes as European markets struggle with network congestion owing to more people being stuck at home.

Have you spotted Prime Video profiles yet? Give us the details (i.e. your market) in the comments below!
