Netflix temporarily reduces streaming traffic in the Philippines to ease network congestion

Netflix has announced that it would reduce streaming traffic in the Philippines in response to the government's request in order to help telco companies manage network congestion during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

To recall, millions are currently staying at home because of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to prevent the further spread of the deadly COVID-19 disease.

This has led to an increase in bandwidth demand as most are heavily relying on the internet for both work and entertainment. Netflix is one of the most popular "stream on-demand" platforms for entertainment.

The likely effect of this is a downgrade in streaming quality. But, Netflix said that freeing up the bandwidth will not be felt by consumers since it is more of a "back-end engineering process".

Netflix subscribers will still get what they have subscribed to, but streaming will be limited.

The company believes that this will provide significant relief to the congested network in the Philippines for the next 30 days.

Given the crisis, we've developed a way to reduce Netflix' traffic on telecommunications networks by 25 percent while also maintaining the quality of our services, Netflix vice president for Content Delivery Ken Florance said in a blog post.

We believe that this will provide significant relief to congested network and will be deploying it in the Philippines for the next 30 days, he said.

Realme extends warranty nationwide because of the Luzon-wide community quarantine

Because of the Luzon-wide community quarantine imposed by the Philippine government to fight the deadly Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), realme PH will be extending the warranty of realme devices that will expire starting March 15.

Realme extends warranty because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation

The extended warranty is applicable:

1. For realme devices with warranty expiring during the lockdown - The company will provide an additional 7 working days from the date of lockdown lifting.

2. For devices with a defect after purchase and the replacement period during the lockdown - Realme will extend an additional 3 working days from the date of lifting the lockdown.

Realme noted that the extended warranty will still comply with the standard warranty policy that does not cover physical or liquid damage.
