Google Pixel Buds 2 might come to market as early as this month

Google Pixel Buds 2 in Quite Mint on a wooden block

Google’s famed true wireless earbuds — the Pixel Buds 2 — might launch as soon as this month. The hearables were first announced back in October and were recently listed on the website of US-based retailer Abt Electronics.

Now, a trusted reader tells 9to5Google that the retailer is sending out emails to all those who preordered the next-gen TWS earbuds. The email apparently quotes information from Google itself. It claims that the Pixel Buds 2 will arrive at the retailer’s warehouse sometime in late April or early May.

Here’s what the email reads:

We are writing to keep you updated on the status of your pre-order for the Google Pixel Buds – GA01470-US. We have been informed by Google this new product is expected to be releases (sic) to arrival in our warehouse by end of April/early May. We are continuing to work with Google to receive this product as soon as possible. Once received we will promptly ship your order.

Looking at the above email, it seems likely that Google will release the Pixel Buds 2 in the timeframe noted above. If so, the cordless earbuds will not only be available through various online retailers, but also through Google’s own web store.

However, it should be noted that the US is bracing itself for some tough few weeks ahead owing to the exponential rise in the number of coronavirus cases. This might impact the Pixel Buds 2 release date if it’s set for April/May in the first place.

It also looks like colors other than white won’t be available at launch. According to the same retailer, the black model of the Pixel Buds 2 won’t be available until early or mid July. Below is an email the retailer apparently sent to another 9to5Google reader.

We are writing to keep you updated on the status of your order for the Google Pixel Buds black model GA01478-US. We have been informed by Google this new model is expect to be released early/mid July to arrive in our warehouse.

Nevertheless, we will keep you updated as and when Google makes the release date of the Pixel Buds 2 official. Until then, you can read our hands-on impressions of the earbuds here.
