Astronomers found an Earth-like exoplanet orbiting the solar system’s nearest star

Proxima b an Earth-like exoplanet orbiting in the habitable zone of the nearest star to our own in the Proxima Centauri solar system — located just 4.2 light-years from Earth — has been confirmed by an international team of astronomers from the University of Geneva. The team used the Echelle SPectrograph for Rocky Exoplanets and Stable Spectroscopic Observations (ESPRESSO) spectrograph, attached to the Very Large Telescope (VLT) located in the Chilean desert to make their observation. The team’s findings are published in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics. Proxima b, an exoplanet orbiting a red dwarf star, was initially detected four years ago by…

Only you can turn every pointless meeting into a productive session

There are very few things I hate more than emails but meetings are one of them. I know we all need to have the occasional meeting to discuss project specifics or brainstorm new ideas — and this really isn’t an issue. The problem arises when you’re constantly being pulled into countless (and pointless) meetings, where everyone sits around talking about doing stuff but nothing of substance gets agreed or there are no real action points follow. With this in mind, I’ve put together a few pointers that should hopefully make your meetings more productive, even without your co-workers knowing. [Read: Click…

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs may have just leaked

Samsung delivered some pretty impressive camera technology on the Galaxy S20 Ultra earlier this year, featuring a 108MP main camera, a periscope zoom camera, and 8K recording.

Now, prolific tipster Ice Universe has shared apparent Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs, and it looks like Samsung could be picking up where the S20 Ultra left off.

The leaker alleges that the Galaxy Note 20 Plus will have the same Isocell Bright HM1 108MP main camera as the top-end S20 model. This particular sensor is capable of nona-binning, combining data from nine adjacent pixels into one. This particular pixel-binning solution means the sensor spits out 12MP shots from its 108MP camera.

More Galaxy Note 20 Plus cameras

Ice Universe also claims that the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 model will pack a 12MP “2L3” ultra-wide camera (referring to the firm’s Isocell Fast 2L3 sensor) and a 13MP “3M5” periscope camera (referring to Samsung’s S5K3M5 camera sensor). The latter would be a big drop in resolution over the S20 Ultra’s 48MP periscope camera. If true, this suggests the firm may have decided better low-light quality was more important than more megapixels.

The leaker adds that the Note 20 Plus will pack a laser focus sensor instead of a 3D ToF camera, as well as 50x zoom instead of 100x zoom seen on the S20 Ultra. We’d be happy to see Samsung dial back on the low-quality 100x digital zoom feature, and focus on improving hybrid zoom instead.

Ice Universe has a good record for leaks, but they’re not perfect. So we’ll need to wait for more leaks to corroborate these Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs or for the official launch event.

This new leak also comes a day after Samsung’s Bluetooth SIG filing for a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. It’s possible Samsung will rebrand the Galaxy Note 20 Plus to become a Note 20 Ultra instead, with the model number in the filing apparently tied to the Note 20 Plus as well. It’s also possible but perhaps less likely that the firm actually has a third Note 20 variant in the works.

DxOMark: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip's selfie cam disappoints

Following the announcement of its back camera score last month, DxOMark has revealed the selfie camera rating of the Galaxy Z Flip today.

Tied with Galaxy A71's selfie score

Sadly, its 10MP f/2.4 single selfie camera is nowhere near the selfie performance of other Samsung high-end smartphones.
Selfie score breakdown
Selfie score breakdown

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip's only got a Photo score of 82 points and a Video score of 86 points for an average of 83 points.

It is significantly lower than the selfie cam score of the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 10+ with 100 and 99 average scores, respectively. Obviously, it is far behind the 103 top scoring selfie score of the Huawei P40 Pro. Even the mid-range Galaxy A71 has the same 83 score.

With an overall DXOMARK Camera selfie score of 83, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip ranks in the bottom half of our database for front camera image quality. That's the same overall score as Samsung’s recent budget-friendly A71, and only a single point improvement on older flagships like Apple’s iPhone XS Max and Samsung’s Galaxy S9+, both at 82.

DxOMark noted that while it has vivid and pleasant colors as well as generally accurate exposure, it is low in detail and it out focuses faces at close range. For videos, it ha strong noise in low light and white balance errors for indoor shots.

That's a bit disappointing for a PHP 79,990 smartphone. Fortunately, you can use its main cameras as the selfie camera while on the clamshell mode through its secondary screen and by double-pressing the power key.

Google sued for at least USD 5B over tracking users browsing in incognito mode

Google is being sued for gathering data from its users even if they're using Chrome's "Incognito" mode.

Google Incognito Mode saves users' browsing history?

According to a New York-based law firm Boies Schiller & Flexner, Google's presentation of incognito mode on Chrome "intentionally deceive[s] consumers." The firm is seeking a minimum of USD 5 billion in damages on the aforementioned grounds.

In case you forgot, when you open a Google Chrome in incognito mode, the program does not save your search history. However, analytics data is still sent to the websites you visit via Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager.

Once opened, the incognito mode prompts that the data may still be visible to "websites you visit," "your employer or school," and "your Internet service provider."

According to an exclusive interview with Business Insider, it is upfront with its users that their data from browsing incognito might be sent to third parties.

We strongly dispute these claims and we will defend ourselves vigorously against them, a Google spokesman told Business Insider.

Incognito mode in Chrome gives you the choice to browse the internet without your activity being saved to your browser or device. As we clearly state each time you open a new incognito tab, websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity during your session, he added.

The lawsuit seeks a minimum of USD 5,000 per plaintiff and currently has three plaintiffs attached to it.
