It’s time to say goodbye to two of the best Google smartphones

Google’s mid-range smartphones from 2019 have completed their successful run and are now being put out to pasture. The company has confirmed that it’s discontinuing the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. The duo will no longer be available from the Google Store but will remain on sale through third-party platforms while stocks last.

In a statement to Android Police, a Google spokesperson said: “Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed sales of Pixel 3a. For people who are still interested in buying Pixel 3a, the product is available from some partners while supplies last.”

The statement came after the official Google Store listing for the Pixel 3a series started showing the status of the phones as “Unavailable.” It has since changed to “Out of Stock”, making it clear that Google is not parting with any more units of the affordable Pixels.

Google Pixel 3a discontinued: Now what?

The discontinuation of the Pixel 3a series marks the end of the entire Pixel 3 line. The flagship Pixel 3 and 3XL were discontinued in March this year. So currently, the only Google smartphones in play are the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL. We’re hoping that the removal of the Pixel 3a line indicates the imminent arrival of the highly-anticipated Pixel 4a. However, no one seems to have a clue when Google will finally take the covers off that one.

Billing Issue

Apple-owned Dark Sky gets an extra month on Android, will now sunset on August 1

Popular weather app Dark Sky will be available to Android and website users for an extra month. Instead of ending those services today, it will do so on August 1.

After Apple acquired it earlier this year, the company had planned on restricting access to iOS devices only. From July 1, the Android and Wear OS would be deprecated and the website and associated embeds stripped. Alas, those forecasts, maps, and embeds are still up and people are left with another 31 days to find an alternative.

Rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro?

POCO on Flipkart also confirmed that the handset will come with fast charging support.

Earlier rumors point that the device could be a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro Global.

If true, the phone will feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ punch-hole screen, 8nm Snapdragon 720G SoC, 5,020mAh battery with USB-C 30W fast charging, 64MP + 8MP wide + 5MP macro + 2MP depth quad-cam, and a 16MP selfie camera.
