Trump is planning to ban TikTok in US
TikTok is a popular short-form video sharing and lipsyncing app with about 80 million users in United States and 800 million worldwide.
The possible ban will be due to security concerns on the Chinese-owned ByteDance app that could be used to collect personal data of Americans.
TikTok has repeatedly denied the accusations and said that none of its data is subject to the Chinese law.
In India, the app is already banned after a border skirmish with China as was caught up in a geopolitical feud.
Reportedly, Microsoft is continuing the talks to purchase the US operations of the Chinese-owned video-sharing app.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said he had a conversation with President Trump about the acquisition and stressed that it "fully appreciates the importance" of addressing Trump's concern.
A full security review of the app will be conducted. Microsoft will also have to provide the US government with a list of "proper economic benefits" to the country.
Also, Microsoft will ensure that "all private data of TikTok's American users" was transferred to and remained in the US.
Apart from US, Microsoft is planning to purchase the Tiktok service in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
