Poco C3 is now official: The brand’s cheapest phone arrives in India

  • Xiaomi has launched the Poco C3 in India.
  • Specs include a triple rear camera array, 5,000mAh battery, and 6.53-inch display.
  • It’s now Poco’s cheapest smartphone in India.

Xiaomi brand Poco is no stranger to India’s fierce budget smartphone battle. To bolster its ranks, it today announced the Poco C3, the cheapest Poco phone available.

At this price point, you probably shouldn’t expect any ambitious unique designs from the firm. The Poco C3 shares most of its specs with the Redmi 9C, a phone that launched in Europe and other global markets earlier this year.

Aesthetically, Poco does put its own spin on the C3, and compared to its Redmi cousin it’s arguably the better looker. A dual-tone finish features at the rear while the company’s logo sits just below the squared camera array. It’s available in three colorways too: Arctic Blue, Lime Green, and Matte Black.

Upfront, the Poco C3 wears a 6.53-inch HD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Internally, a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset joins up to 4GB of RAM (1GB more than the Redmi 9C) and 64GB of storage. There are dedicated microSD and dual SIM slots, too. At the rear, the Poco C3 packs a 13MP main camera, a 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP macro camera.

A 5,000mAh battery also features which Poco claims will offer users 14 hours of non-stop gaming. The brand also believes the battery’s good for over three years’ worth of charging cycles before any notable degradation.

As for price and availability, the Poco C3 will also arrive in a 3GB/32GB variant which starts at Rs 7,499 (~$102). The more premium 4GB/64GB model is priced at Rs 8,999 (~$123). That’s a decidedly aggressive price point, especially compared to Realme’s C series and other sub-Rs 10,000 phones in India. You’ll have to wait until October 16 to purchase one on Flipkart, though.

Update: October 6, 2020 (3:30 AM ET): Samsung has announced a release timeline for One UI 3.0. The company posted the details on its South Korean website. We’ve updated the original article below with the latest information.

Original article: September 15, 2020 (3:15 AM ET): Samsung announced a One UI 3.0 developer beta based on Android 11 last month, available on the Galaxy S20 series. We didn’t hear about any particular features or changelog at the time, but we’ve finally got a comprehensive list of additions and tweaks.

  • You can now connect to supported TVs wirelessly.
  • New touchpad multi-gestures let you change screen zoom and font size more easily.

  • Events with the same start time are now shown together in month and agenda view.
  • Reorganized options for adding and editing events.
  • Improved layout for full screen alerts.

  • Improved layout for full screen alerts.

Digital wellbeing and parental controls

  • Added trends to your weekly report. You can see how your usage has changed since the previous week and check your usage time for each feature.
  • Added phone usage time while driving to your weekly report.
  • Added a lockscreen widget so you can check your screen time without unlocking your phone.
  • Added separate profiles for personal and work modes so you can track your screen time separately.

Camera

  • Improved autofocus and auto exposure functionality and usability.
  • Improved stabilization when taking pictures of the moon at high zoom levels.

  • Added the ability to revert edited pictures back to their original versions.

Bixby Routines

  • Grouped preset routines help you get started quickly and learn how to build your own routines quickly.
  • You can now see what actions are reversed when a routine ends.
  • New conditions have been added, such as a specific start time, the disconnection of a Bluetooth device or Wi-Fi network, a call from a specific number, and more.
  • New actions have been added, including talking to Bixby and accessibility actions.
  • You can add a customized icon for each routine and add routines to the lockscreen for quick access.

XDA-Developers has also uncovered a few more One UI 3.0 details via the developer beta, namely that the Android skin ditches two stock Android 11 features. One UI 3.0 lacks the stock Device Controls feature, which turns your power menu into a smart home center. Instead, the skin has its own smart home shortcut accessible via the quick settings menu (albeit for the SmartThings app only).

The second major stock Android 11 feature said to be missing from Samsung One UI 3.0 is the Quick Access Wallet option. This allowed you to quickly access your cards saved in Google Pay. But XDA notes that Samsung has its own solution, letting you quickly access cards saved in Samsung Pay.

The One UI 3.0 developer beta update weighs in at 2.5GB according to the Twitter user’s screenshot, so you might want to get connected to Wi-Fi if you’re on a limited mobile data plan. The update also delivers the September 2020 security patch.

One UI 3.0 release date

Samsung has announced that the stable One UI 3.0 release will happen after November 2020. The information has been machine-translated from Samsung’s Korean forums so it’s possible that there’s some discrepancy in our understanding. However, the timeline seems plausible because Samsung is already preparing to release the One UI 3.0 public beta. Also, this was the same timeline for the One UI 2.0 stable update last year. With that in mind, you can expect to get your hands on One UI 3.0 by December.

The update should roll out first to the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 flagships. A variety of Samsung devices are now eligible for three years of Android version updates, ranging from 2019 flagships and higher to several Galaxy A series phones. So you can bet that these devices will also be on the list.

You can now choose Batman or Riddler guide you on your next Waze trip

Good news to all fans of Batman series! Waze is now allowing drivers to choose Batman or the Riddler as their guidance voice!

Waze users can now select the navigation voice either as Batman or The Riddler (Photo from CNet)

Customized voice navigation, mood playlists, and car icons

The company and Warner Bros. have teamed up to let users have a more enjoyable car trip. Until October 31, 2020, Waze users will be able to activate either Batman's or The Riddler's voices while they're driving. Waze's Head of Brand Programs, Erin Bellsey, shared:

We are so excited to be partnering with WBCP and DC to bring this experience to our users. Given the year we’ve had, I think we all need some superhero support to guide our way, and we can’t think of a better way to do it than with the first ever Waze program that features two iconic characters’ Voice navigation, Moods, and Cars. We’re also thrilled to be working with our Audio Player partner, Spotify, to bring the experience to life with fun music for drivers around the world.

Batman is voiced by Kevin Conroy and as for The Riddler, the voice of Wally Wingert will guide the users. The new features are available worldwide in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

But there's more to that partnership. Waze users can also select their icon to appear on the app either as a Batmobile or a custom Riddler vehicle icon. And as Waze has integration with Spotify so drivers can listen to the curated Batman or Riddler playlist.

To drive with Batman and The Riddler while listening to their character-inspired tunes, the user will have to search Spotify for two specific playlists: Drive with Batman and Drive with The Riddler. Their voices can be enabled directly from within the Waze app.

Note that the features mentioned above are only temporary and will be gone on October 31, 2020.

Before that, you guys perhaps want to try it for your next road trip. To access the Batman and Riddler features, click here
