SK hynix's 64GB DDR5 RAM read and write is so fast, there isn't a CPU that can run it yet

South Korea's SK hynix today launched the world's very first 64GB DDR5 modules for future PCs.

DDR5 is said to provide major gains in speed and capacity. SK hynix revealed that its DDR5-4800 chips supporting 4,800 to 5,600 MB/s transfer speeds are 1.8x faster than DDR4 while consuming 20 percent less power. In theory, it can transfer 9 (nine) 5GB big FHD movies in one second.

SK Hynix noted that it has an operating voltage of 1.1 volts and reduced power consumption as well as operating costs as well.

It is also claimed that we could see 256GB memory modules using the company's through-silicon-via (TSV) technology.

DDR5 is claimed to be optimized for Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML).

So far, there's no CPU that can support this tech yet. SK hynix is targeting data centers first where the higher capacity and lower power draw will be useful.

Industry analysts claimed that we could see DDR5 usage will rise in 2021 with 10 percent of the market share. In 2022, it is expected to rise to 44 percent.

SK hynix is the world's second-largest DRAM maker with 30 percent of the market share.

Redmi’s latest earphones, true wireless earbuds hit India for just under $20

Whether it’s smartphones, laptops, or wearables, Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is well-known for delivering excellent value for money for the most part. The firm is definitely living up to that ethos with its latest audio announcements for India.

Xiaomi’s brand has launched the Bluetooth 5-toting Redmi SonicBass wireless earphones and Redmi Earbuds 2C. Starting with the former product, you’re looking at a neckband design with magnetic earbuds and an IPx4 rating for splash- and sweat-proof design.

The SonicBass earphones also offer dual pairing functionality, dual mics with noise cancellation, a multi-function button, and up to 12 hours of music playback (taking two hours to charge via microUSB). Check out the design below.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Earbuds 2C looks similar to the well-received Redmi Earbuds S in terms of earbud and case design. You’re getting an IPX4 rating here too, as well as noise cancellation, a multi-function button, and up to 12 hours of playback with the charging case (which itself takes two hours to charge via microUSB).

The Redmi SonicBass earphones are available for Rs 1,299 (~$18) and come in black or blue color choices. However, the company is offering a promotional price of Rs 999 (~$14). Need some true wireless goodness in your life? Then the Redmi Earbuds 2C will retail for Rs 1,499 (~$20), but has a promotional price of Rs 1,299 (~$18). There’s no word on how long the promotional pricing will last.

The two devices will be available via Mi.com, Mi Home stores, and offline retail partners. However, the SonicBass earphones will be sold via Flipkart, while Amazon India has dibs on the Earbuds 2C. Both devices will be available from today (October 7).

Amazfit’s new cheap smartwatch adds blood oxygen tracking

Huami’s Amazfit line of smartwatches and fitness trackers has long been the go-to for many price-conscious consumers. The company has already launched several watches in India, and it looks like it’s launching one more next week.

Huami announced that the Amazfit Bip U will be launching in India on October 16 via Amazon and its own Amazfit web store. There’s no word on pricing just yet, but the company notes that it’s the latest in its line of budget smartwatches and will be launched at an “impressive” price point. For what it’s worth, the standard Bip S retailed for Rs 4,999 (~$68).

The Amazfit Bip U isn’t going to win any points for originality, definitely bringing to mind the Apple Watch with its rounded corners and crown on the right side. Otherwise, the brand is touting SPO2 tracking as the smartwatch’s standout feature.

Other noteworthy Bip U features include a TFT LCD color screen, heart-rate monitoring, always-on support, over 60 sports modes, 5ATM water resistance, stress monitoring, breathing training, menstrual tracking, and Huami’s PAI health assessment system. You can also expect up to nine days of typical usage, according to Huami.

We’ll update the article with pricing at launch, but you’ll be able to choose between pink, black, and green color options come release day. Here’s hoping the Bip U doesn’t suffer from major connectivity problems, as this has been our main issue in recent Amazfit wearable reviews.
