The Arlo Pro 4 Camera packs hub-less Wi-Fi connectivity and 6-month battery life

And the Arlo Ultra 2 is now widely available

Arlo's cameras are among the better options when it comes to home security. While the company's products are expensive, they offer a great feature set, even if you'll probably have to pay for Arlo's Smart subscription to unlock the full potential. Past models have always needed an additional hub to connect to Wi-Fi, but recent additions to the lineup have forgone that requirement for direct Wi-Fi connectivity. The same is true for the Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight the company has just announced, making the Pro Spotlight series finally independent from hubs.

Realme’s latest budget phones charge insanely fast and cost next to nothing

The Realme 7 and 7 Pro arrive in Europe with tons of great features and low price tags

It’s no secret by now that Oppo sub-brand Realme is the world’s fastest-growing smartphone maker, and it’s no surprise either given its commitment to low-cost hardware with high-value specs. While Realme does compete at the higher end, albeit which much lower prices than its competitors, it is budget models like the Realme 7 and 7 Pro that likely make up the lions share of the company’s impressive sales figures.

This latest pair of handsets was first released in India last month, but they’re now making their way to Europe.

Leaker: HomePod 'Mini' Close to Launch, But No Second-Generation HomePod This Year

Apple is expected to unveil a smaller, lower-priced HomePod at its digital-only event next week, which has led to speculation about the possibility of a second-generation ‌HomePod‌ also arriving. This morning, however, serial Apple leaker l0vetodream poured cold water on that idea, claiming there will be no "HomePod2" launching beside the rumored "mini" model this year.

Earlier this year, Apple began allowing employees to purchase up to 10 HomePods at a 50 percent discount, up from the previous limit of two. Some observers had suggested that the larger purchase limit could be part of Apple's efforts to clear out inventory of the current ‌HomePod‌ ahead of a new model.

Apple may continue to sell the current ‌HomePod‌ alongside the smaller, more affordable version, but it may cut future supply orders for the premium model, which reportedly hasn't sold very well. Apple has never disclosed ‌HomePod‌ sales, instead grouping the speaker under its "Wearables, Home, and Accessories" category, but the price of the speaker is thought to have been its biggest obstacle.

Apple launched the ‌HomePod‌ in February 2018 with a $349 price tag, but then reduced its price to $299 in April 2019. The ‌HomePod‌ also has several low-priced competitors on the smart assistant front, including Amazon's fourth-generation Echo ($90) and the recently announced Google Nest ($90).

Apple has been steadily making the ‌HomePod‌ more useful by adding features such as Handoff support, multi-user voice detection, ambient sounds, and multi-room audio. Apple is also expected to add third-party music support to the ‌HomePod‌ in a future software update. The latter feature will presumably allow Spotify and other music services to be set as the default music service, letting users ask Siri to stream music by specifying "with Spotify" at the end of a request.

As for Apple's rumored smaller ‌HomePod‌, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested the new speaker could include two tweeters, rather than the current model's seven, in order to drive down costs.

Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro launch in Europe for under €300

  • Realme has officially launched the Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro in Europe.
  • This follows the launch of the phones in India in September.
  • The Realme 7 will debut at €179, with the Realme 7 Pro coming in at €299.

Europe’s mid-range smartphone market is welcoming two new entrants from Realme today. After debuting in India last month, the BBK brand is bringing the Realme 7 series to the continent, featuring slightly different specs to their Indian counterparts and the previous generation.

Realme 7

If you snapped up the Realme 6 when it launched back in March, there’s no real reason to upgrade to the Realme 7. Aesthetically, the two phones are different, though. The latter swaps the Realme 6’s shimmering rear panel for a two-tone look drawing attention to the broader rear camera array. Here you’ll find the first major feature deviation from the Indian model.

Realme 7 will only see a 48MP primary snapper in Europe, not the 64MP shooter used on the Indian variant. It will still be joined by an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro, and 2MP depth snapper. It’s an odd omission, given that the Realme 6 sported a 64MP sensor too, but it’s likely a ploy to further differentiate the Realme 7 from the Realme 7 Pro. It also gives potential buyers another reason to snag the Pro model.

The Realme 7 also sports a MediaTek Helio G95 chipset with a 5,000mAh battery. The latter can be topped up using Realme’s 30W Dart Charge system. Adding to its gaming bent is a 6.5-inch 2,400 x 1,080 LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate, similar to the Realme 6. A 16MP selfie camera also features.

Realme 7 Pro buyers in Europe meanwhile receive the same phone as launched in India, complete with a two-tone finish at the rear and a bigger camera array than its sibling.

That “Pro” moniker also gets users a 6.4-inch OLED display pegged at a 60Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 720G chipset, and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging. A 64MP IMX682 primary camera features, along with the same trio of tertiary cameras on the Realme 7. The X3 Superzoom‘s Starry Night feature also arrives on the 7 Pro. A 32MP selfie camera is mounted in a punch-hole.

A dual SIM slot and dedicated microSD card slot also features. For audio lovers, the phone also packs stereo speakers with Dolby Audio support.

Mirror Blue and Mirror Silver are the colorways on offer.

Realme 7 series: European pricing and availability

The Realme 7 will launch in three RAM and storage variants: 4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB, and 8GB/128GB. They’ll be priced at €179 (~$210), €199 (~$233), and €249 (~$292), respectively. The phone goes on sale from October 21 via Realme’s online store and other participating retailers.

As for the Realme 7 Pro, the phone will be available in a single variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It will be priced at €299 (~$351) and will be available as of October 13 from Realme and other participating stores.
