Is ordering gadgets online will risk you to the Novel Coronavirus?

Due to an increasing number of suspected and confirmed people of the notorious Novel Coronavirus worldwide, fear spreads.
Is ordering a gadget online will risk you to Corona viruses?
Safe to order or not?

Some of them are because of some myths and false information being spread online.

So, there's no better way to protect ourselves but to educate ourselves on how the virus can affect our lifestyle.

But let's focus on one issue at a time. For example, there were queries regarding the safety of shopping for electronics online from the likes of Lazada and Shopee that are shipped from China.

Those are valid concerns since you won’t want to risk your health and welfare from simply receiving a package shipped from overseas.

To bring this issue in light, here are the facts and information that were gathered by our team which may help you decide for yourself.

How to avoid getting the virus?

There's video footage that was uploaded on the World Health Organization website that explains what is the Coronavirus all about. Part of that is the preventive steps one has to take to avoid being infected, and that includes frequent hand washing. Why?

The answer was due to the fact that an infected person may spread the virus by sneezing or coughing then touching a surface or object.

But, it was pointed out that the primary transmission is person to person.

Can the virus be spread through the electronics and gadgets imported from China?

According to an article published by NBC news, it was highly unlikely since the coronaviruses usually don’t live quite long on surfaces. So then, the said viruses cannot survive the period when an item is being shipped especially if it will take weeks before delivery.

Dr. Nancy Messonnier from Centers from Disease Control (CDC) explained, "There is no evidence to support the transmission of 2019-nCoV associated with imported goods and there have not been any cases of 2019-nCoV in the United States associated with imported goods.

This statement was also supported by an interview with a professor of epidemiology on National Geographic. Dr. Arnold Monto pointed out that viruses would rather be moist, and many fade from being infectious if left dry for too long. He stated further,

To be sustained, to allow true aerosols, the virus has to be able to survive in that environment for the amount of time it’s exposed to drying,

Most of us aware that the electronic parts are being manufactured and assembled in dry and hot surroundings. So how can the Coronavirus live on that condition?

Aside from that logic, manufacturing companies are applying all recommended health and hygiene practices like the Taiwanese electronics giant, Foxconn. It manufactures key products for countless tech companies including Apple, and it will continue its production with precaution.

How to do a mail merge in Microsoft Word

How to do a Mail Merge

You already know, and either love or hate, Microsoft Word. Writing your letters is easy, but with just a little help it can also be easy to do more advanced tasks such as a mail merge.

A mail merge is the easiest way to send similar letters to multiple recipients. You can customize each letter specifically for each recipient which saves lots of time and effort. Here’s a quick guide to get you mailing in minutes.

How to do a mail merge

1. Getting started is just as easy as starting many other Word functions. Just head to the mailings tab in a new document and look for the drop-down that says Start Mail Merge. The menu should look a little bit like the picture below:

Step one is pretty easy, but step two is where the magic starts to happen.

2. See! It’s a wizard pun. It’s funny, I promise. This is the step where you choose the bottom option: Step-by-step Mailing Wizard. Now you’ll see a menu on the side of your screen where you can select Letters as your format.

3. After you choose to start with a letter, you can make a selection to start from an existing document or open up a template to edit. It might seem like it’s time to write your letter, but you’ll actually choose your recipients next. You can choose from an existing list if you have one or start a new list that looks like this:

4. You’re finally ready for the meaty part of a mail merge: writing your letter and adding the customizable fields. Luckily for you, Word has a menu on the side where you can note the Address Block, Greeting Line, and more items that will vary by the recipient. From there you’ll just have to write the body of your letter. All of these steps together should look like this:

5. The last step to do a mail merge is to fill in the customization blocks for each recipient. This shouldn’t take long at all because you already have your recipient list so you can click through a series of dropdown menus to make each letter unique. You won’t have to spend the time typing each recipient individually because your list will be saved for future use complete with names and addresses.

It’s that easy to do a mail merge, and now that you have some basic tips, you can send letters fast and easy. However, there’s a lot more to Word, and to Microsoft Office in general.

What else can Office do?

A quick mail merge is just the first rung in the ladder to Office mastery. Microsoft Office also includes PowerPoint, Excel, and Access, and they all complement each other. You can learn how to control databases in Access and create brilliant presentations in PowerPoint and then embed them into your mail merge. The power and freedom to choose are all yours.

Realme to bring 5G devices in the Philippines "soon"

During the realme 5i launch a few days back, the company teased that they soon launch a 5G device in the Philippines.

5G phones in PH soon?

Realme's presentation reads "Leap to 5G, soon for every Filipino" suggesting that it will be an affordable 5G-ready smartphone.

That device could be the realme X50 5G as it was shown in the presentation image.

Realme X50 5G is a handset packed with a dual punch-hole 6.57-inch FHD+ 20:9 screen, 7nm Snapdragon 765G chipset with built-in 5G, 4,200mAh 30W USB-C charging, 64MP quad-cam, 16MP + 8MP dual selfie cam, and side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

But, realme previously said that the company is currently working with local network operators, internet companies and app developers to speed up the development of 5G.

The question. How soon? 5G is still in the rolling out stage in the country. It means that 5G is far from being widely available yet.

Maybe realme will launch a 5G phone in preparation for the launch of 5G services in the Philippines this year.

What’s on Netflix in February 2020: Locke and Key and more

Netflix icon on the homescreen of the HTC 10.

Netflix in February 2020 will once again include a bunch of new and exclusive TV shows and movies. This includes the long-awaited TV series adaptation of the comic book horror-fantasy series Locke and Key. Also, February brings us the sequel to the hit teen rom-com movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and the second season to the sci-fi series Altered Carbon.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of what’s being added to Netflix in February 2020, plus a list of what’s leaving the service this month.

Locke and Key (First season – Feb. 7)

It’s been a long time coming for fans of this IDW comic book series, but now the first season of the Locke and Key adaptation is finally coming to Netflix. The original comics were written by novelist Joe Hill (son of Stephen King). The series takes place in a mysterious house that happens to be a historical estate of a single mother and her three children. They move in the house after the death of their father. However, they soon discover this is no ordinary structure. It contains a series of supernatural keys that can open doors to other dimensions and give people special powers.

To All the Boys 2: P.S. I Still Love You (Original movie – Feb. 12)

This is the long-awaited sequel to one of the most popular Netflix original movies of all time. The original 2018 film adapted the young adult romance novel, about a young girl named Lara Jean. She wrote secret letters to all of the boys she has fallen for in the past, only for those letters to become public. The sequel, again based on the second book in the series, has Lara Jean finally enjoying life with her boyfriend Peter. Complications set in when yet another former love of hers shows up.

Altered Carbon (Season 2 – Feb. 27)

We have yet another show on Netflix that’s taken a while to get its second season. The first season of this sci-fi series debuted in 2018, and introduced us to a far-future world where the rich could upload their consciousness into other human bodies called “Sleeves.” This season, Anthony Mackie plays the latest “sleeve” of Takeshi Kovacs (played by Joel Kinnaman and Will Yun Lee in season 1).  While plot details are still under wraps, we would suspect Kovacs to once again be solving some kind of murder or murders in this future.
