Motor taxi services like Angkas and JoyRide will be considered illegal starting next week as the experimental pilot run ends ahead of schedule.
Motor taxi services will be deemed illegal |
No more motor taxi services?
This announcement came from the Department of Transportation's technical working group official Antionio Gardiola Jr. as they submitted the report to Congress. The group urged DOTr Secretary and Congress to immediately end the implementation of the pilot study.
The decision came due to, according to the group, Angkas "deliberately questioning and arrogantly defying the guidelines". Previously, Angkas was able to get TROs against the implementation of a 30,000 cap on the number of riders allowed. This number of riders will be then divided between Angkas, JoyRide, and MoveIt.
According to Gardiola, Motor taxis can be deemed illegal due to them drawing authority to run motorcycles because of the study. When asked if motor taxis could still operate after the announcement, he said no because of the laws in place for that. He also said that enforcement will start a week from now.
