CNET has obtained images of the prototype device that TCL was supposed to show at the canceled MWC 2020 event in Barcelona. It is a smartphone with a crazy slide-out display.
Promising design |
Slide-out screen!
Basically, it is a smartphone first, but it can extend to a tablet. It is using a flexible display, but it doesn't bend in half, unlike other implementations.
At the back, it revealed at the phone has a quad-camera system. In front, there's a cutout for the dual-cam. The display has a waterfall-like curve as well.
Phone and tablet modes |
The exact mechanism of this thing work is still unknown. The best guess is one portion of the flexible display bends or wraps behind the other. Although it could make the phone thicker, what the renders are showing is crazy.
It also reminds us of the Samsung patent with an expandable display area. One thing is for sure, this is a very exciting concept.
CNET's trusted source said that the expandable phone is the device that the journalists would have seen a the Mobile World Congress this month. But, the biggest mobile tech show on earth has been canceled due to health concerns regarding the Novel Coronavirus scare.
Is this form factor really possible? Let's see how will this pan out.
