According to Ookla, an independent global leader in internet testing and analysis, PLDT and Smart have improved their Speed Score in the second half of 2019.

Better numbers than ever
PLDT achieved a speed score of 25.03 with top download speeds of 62.87 Mbps and top upload speeds of 80.07 Mbps. The results are based on 29,505,821 customer-initiated Speedtest nationwide for Q3 to Q4 2019.
On the other hand, Smart recorded a Speed Score of 18.13 with average download speeds of 20.42 Mbps and upload speeds of 9.87 Mbps. The scores are based on 1,822,301 user-initiated tests on 4G LTE ready devices using the Speedtest app in the Philippines during the same period.
In comparison, PLDT achieved a Speed Score of 20.44 with top 51.36 Mbps download and 54.22 Mbps download speeds for fixed networks and Smart achieved a Speed Score of 17.07 with average download speeds of 19.33 Mbps and upload speeds of 9.16 Mbps versus Q1 to Q2, 2019.
The results of these consumer-initiated tests provide further proof that we are achieving our goal of progressively improving the service quality enjoyed by our customers. Aside from expanding our coverage, we are enabling our customers to have the best experience enjoying entertainment or learning new skills through online video, playing mobile games, or boosting their businesses through social media and online commerce, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT-Smart senior vice president for Network Planning and Engineering.
The latest Ookla awards come amid the continuous expansion and upgrade of PLDT and Smart's network.
PLDT said the CAPEX of the company will be higher than the PHP 58 billion last year to finance the aggressive rollout of its wireless services and fifth-generation (5G) network.
