Redmi, Realme cancel launch events due to COVID-19
Realme said it would just host a live-streamed product launch of its Realme 6 amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Realme chief executive officer Madhav Sheth said in a Twitter post that while the event had to be canceled, spectators can monitor online the launch of realme 6 and 6 Pro series.
In light of current reports of #coronavirus impact & related advisory by health officials to maintain social distance as a precautionary measure, I'm calling off our biggest event. Will still give live speech in stadium with you watching #realme6series event online. #HealthFirst— Madhav 5G (@MadhavSheth1) March 3, 2020
The mass gathering, set on March 5, was originally planned at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
The event has been canceled due to recent reports of Covid-19 detection in New Delhi. We have been closely monitoring the situation since yesterday and the safety of our attendees, fans, customers, volunteers, media, and staff always comes first, Realme said.
In a separate advisory, Xiaomi's subsidiary Redmi in a statement said the virus epidemic forced the company to cancel any launch events on the ground this month to minimize the risk of catching the said disease.
We are taking this decision with the objective of reducing exposure risk to COVID-19 for our Mi fans, media friends, partners, and Xiaomi employees, the firm said.
Redmi was supposed to officially introduce in the India market its newest Redmi Note series on March 12.
