VoWiFi is here!

The company revealed that beginning today, starting with its Smart Signature and Infinity customers, the VoWiFi service has started rolling out. It is available on VoWiFi-capable devices like the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate 10, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, P30 series, and TCL PLEX.

For older flagships and mid-rangers, it is available to Galaxy Note 8 and newer, Galaxy S8 and newer, and Galaxy A series.

VoWiFi also is known as WiFi calling allows users to place calls or send SMS while collected on WiFi using the native dialer of their smartphones without the need of installing third-party applications.

Smart also noted that calls made with VoWiFi will be charged against the customer's active subscription. For customers without an active subscription, local and international voice and text rates will apply.

So, as long as there's a WiFi connection, users can enjoy HD voice and video calls via WiFi.

Better 2019 numbers

Apart from the VoWiFi service, Smart increased the number of its 4G LTE base stations by 51 percent in 2019 vs 2018. PLDT's fiber infrastructure also grew by 32 percent versus the end-2018 to more than 322,400 kilometers nationwide.

In addition, Smart announced also announced that it has revamped its rollout off fiber-powered Smart WiFi in heavy foot-traffic areas in the country like government offices, schools, malls, transportation hubs, and more.
