- The Asus ROG Phone 3 has been spotted in a TENAA listing.
- The listing reveals most of its hardware specs.
- The gaming phone is expected to launch in July.
The Asus ROG Phone 2 was one of the most powerful gaming phones in 2019 and it’s successor — the ROG Phone 3 — could once again offer blazing-fast performance. The upcoming device has appeared in a TENAA listing (h/t XDA Developers), revealing a familiar outer design but upgraded insides.
Asus ROG Phone 3: Specs
For starters, the Asus ROG Phone 3 will apparently feature an overclocked Snapdragon 865 processor. The prime core on the chipset is usually clocked at 2.84GHz, but as per the TENAA listing, the ROG Phone 3 will boost the frequency to 3.091GHz. There’s no mention of other overclocked CPU and GPU cores, but according to TENAA, the RAM on the phone will also get an upgrade to 16GB. This will make the ROG Phone 3 the third smartphone in 2020 after the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Nubia Red Magic 5G to sport 16GB RAM.
Upfront, the phone retains its 6.59-inch AMOLED display. Sadly, Asus seems to be giving QHD+ a pass this year as well and the resolution of the new phone is set at FHD+ like its predecessor. The refresh rate isn’t mentioned in the TENAA listing but we expect the phone to get the same 120Hz screen as before. Check out some images from the listing below.
Elsewhere, the gaming phone retains its large 6,000mAh battery and up to 512GB internal storage. There’s no 1TB storage variant mentioned in the listing.
As the images above show, Asus seems to be adding a third camera to the mix this time around. There are no details mentioned about the new sensor, but the main camera seems to be upgraded to 64MP, up from the 48MP shooter on the ROG Phone 2.
Further, the ROG Phone 3 seemingly weighs the same 240g, making it almost 20% heavier than the Galaxy S20 Plus. It’s also almost 8% heavier than the S20 Ultra which, in our opinion, is too bulky for regular use. But the weight of the ROG Phone 3 isn’t its most disappointing feature, it’s the lack of a headphone jack.
The headphone section in the TENAA listing reveals that the phone’s USB-C ports will double up as the audio port. This means that you might have to buy a separate adapter to use your 3.5mm earphones with the ROG Phone 3 or buy a pair of true wireless earbuds.
In terms of software, the phone will feature Android 10 out of the box, likely with ROG UI customizations on top.
Asus ROG Phone 3 launch date
We’re not sure when the Asus ROG Phone 3 will launch, but a previous report suggested that the gaming phone could be unveiled in July. Price details are also unavailable but expect it to cost around $1,000 given its overclocked CPU and other possible feature upgrades.
