The Snapdragon 675 upgrade

Snapdragon 690 is the first 6 series chip of the company with the next-generation connectivity standard support. This chip is also the direct upgrade of the almost 2-year-old Snapdragon 675.

Qualcomm said that the chip comes with 20 percent better CPU performance and 60 percent faster graphics than the Snapdragon 675.

As mentioned, the chip has 5G. It comes sub-6GHz 5G using the new X51 modem. However, it doesn't have the faster mmWave spectrum.

The chip also comes with support for 120Hz refresh rate screens, 4K HDR video capture, and 192MP camera. It is the first Snapdragon 6 series with 4K HDR and 120Hz support.

Snapdragon 690 is expected to compete with HiSilicon and MediaTek 5G chips for mid-range phones.

The chip could debut in Q2 2020.
HMD (Nokia), LG, Motorola, Sharp, and TCL are among the companies that are planning to release a Snapdragon 690-powered smartphone.
