Sturdier than ever
Non-Corning glasses typically shatter in drops from just 0.8 meters according to the company.
Gorilla Glass 5 has 80 percent survival on 1.6-meter drops. Gorilla Glass 6 can also survive the same height even if the surface is rough.
Technically, Victus is the successor of the Gorilla Glass 6. Corning said that this new glass solution can survive up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) of face-first fall on a hard surface.
Also, Victus is more resistant to scratches. In the Knoop hardness test, the new glass only got minor scratches with an 8 Newton load. A sample with the competing glass got scratches at half the force.
Corning revealed that Samsung will be the first company to introduce a device with the Gorilla Glass Victus in the near future.
Expect other manufacturers to work with Corning on this new glass protection solution as well.
