Huawei Y6p vs vivo Y11 vs OPPO A5s - Under PHP 6.5K face-off

In this article, we are comparing three of the best contenders under PHP 7,000 from Huawei, vivo, and OPPO.
Huawei Y6p vs vivo Y11 vs OPPO A5s

The Huawei Y6p (PHP 5,990), vivo Y11 (PHP 6,499) and OPPO A5s (PHP 5,990) feature 12nm SoCs. Even though the Y6p is only at PHP 5,990 it has the most RAM (4GB) and internal storage (64GB) while offering Android 10.

vivo Y11 and the OPPO A5s only have 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and running on Android 9 and Android 8.1 respectively.

Let's see who comes out on top!

Build Quality/Design

vivo Y11, Huawei Y6p, and OPPO A5s
vivo Y11, Huawei Y6p, and OPPO A5s

All three smartphones feature a high-quality polycarbonate frame, curved glasstic back panels, and curved glass front panels. But, only the vivo Y11 does not come with a pre-installed screen protector.

None of the three is equipped with IP water and dust resistance like most budget smartphones.

Out of three, the back design of the vivo y11 and the Huawei Y6p stand out because of the changing back depending on how the light hits the back panel.

The Huawei Y6p's back panel comes with rainbow-like colors that appear.
Notched displays with noticeable chin bezels

In front, all three smartphones are notched displays with a slim top and side bezels but with a thicker chin bezel. Out of the three notches, the Huawei Y6p has the smallest notch while the A5s and Y11 have a significantly larger notch.

The vivo Y11 has the largest display at 6.35-inches while the OPPO A5s has the smallest display at 6.22-inch. But only the Huawei Y6p has a resolution of 1600 x 720 at 20:9 screen aspect ratio which offers a more immersive viewing experience when watching content at landscape orientation.
Top and bottom
Top and bottom

At the top of the Huawei is a single microphone port while the Y6p and A5s have a smooth top. At the bottom of all three devices are the speakers, microphone port, micro USB port, and 3.5mm headphone jacks.
Left and right
Left and right

On the left side of all three devices is the SIM card tray. Only the A5s has the volume buttons on the left while the Huawei Y6p and vivo Y11 have the power button and the volume buttons on the right side.

All three phones have their fingerprint scanners at the back.

Multimedia Experience

Kdrama on all three displays
Kdrama on all three displays

All three smartphone carries a large 6+ inch IPS display but only the Y6p has a 20:9 aspect ratio at 1600 x 720p resolution. All displays are bright enough and produce decently sharp images and acceptable crisp texts.

All 3 comes with over 6-inch big screens

It is worth noting that the Y6p produces images the most vibrant of the three with the vivo y11 in second place and the OPPO A5s in the last place. When placed side by side, the OPPO A5s' display is noticeably less saturated than the rest.

For audio, the Huawei Y6p surprisingly has the loudest speaker that produces the fuller sound. The vivo y11 produces the second loudest but the sound produced isn't as deep and powerful as the Y6p.

While the OPPO A5s' speaker has the weakest maximum volume and it also has the flattest sound signature. At maximum volume, the OPPO A5s had the least distortion while the vivo Y11 had the most distortion. We recommend driving down the volume of the y11's speaker to 80 percent for the best audio quality.

The three smartphones pick up and record sound for calls nearly identically. But the noise cancellation of the Huawei is slightly better because of the second microphone on top of the phone.

Camera

Rear cameras

The Huawei Y6p features a 13MP f/1.8 + 5MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 while both the vivo y11  and OPPO A5s comes with a 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4.

It is clear that the Huawei Y6p has the most sophisticated camera module with a high-resolution 13MP main camera, a 5MP 120-degree ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor while the vivo and OPPO have a 13MP main camera and a secondary depth sensor.

Lastly, only the vivo Y11 doesn't have a Pro or Expert mode.

In daylight three phones performed similarly in sharpness and in the field of view. They differ slightly in white balance as the vivo y11 is on the warmer side while the Huawei Y6p is on the colder side. OPPO A5s has a more accurate white balance but it also blew out the highlights from the sky.

Both the Huawei Y6p and the vivo y11 was able to expose the bright skies well.

Almost no noise is visible from all three images.

In indoors, the images produced are the same as in daylight where the white balance of the Huawei Y6p is colder, the vivo y11 is warmer and the OPPO A5s is just right.

All three come with a similar field of view and sharpness. What makes the Huawei Y6p's indoor images stand out is when you look at the lamps on the ceiling.

If you look closely, only the Y6p's rendition of the lamps is sharp in its edges where the other two have a gradient glow which means the Y6p has better control of highlights (bright areas).

Minimal noise is present among all three images.

In this close-up situation, all three smartphone cameras were able to produce crisp and sharp images of the subject. But only the Huawei Y6p has a natural bokeh (out of focus) background and it was able to accurately pick the white balance of the scene. The sun was shining on the subject so it was naturally warmer. This result is interesting as in the other situations, the Huawei Y6p usually picked the colder side.

While the OPPO A5s and the vivo y11 are noticeably colder than the Huawei Y6p's image.

All three controlled noise and exposure well in this scene as well.

For the rear cameras is the Portrait or Aperture mode where we got a surprising result. The situation where Neil was shot in is backlit (the light source is behind the subject).

To compensate for the backlit, both the vivo y11 and OPPO A5s brightened up the subject in exchange for overexposing the bright areas like the sky. The Huawei Y6p prioritized proper exposure and was able to save the clouds in the skies.

In terms of edge detection, all three smartphones were able to separate the subject from the background and apply the blur at the background accordingly.

Only the OPPO A5s has a 2x lossless zoom and it is surprisingly sharp that may have been added in software. Like the main camera, it struggled in exposing the skies in daylight. Otherwise, it is a competent digital zoom.

Huawei Y6p lowlight ultra-wide

Only the Huawei Y6p has an ultra-wide camera and it should be praised at how it controls highlights (bright areas) while offering vibrant colored images. We noticed that the white balance still favors the colder side and the images are softer than we would like even in daylight.

Given the price point, having an ultra-wide is better than not having one and we think an ultra-wide is more versatile than a telephoto. Props to Huawei for including it on the Y6p.

In low light, both the Huawei Y6p and the vivo Y11 control noise remarkably well. We only noticed minimal noise in dark areas. Color and white balance are similar across all three smartphones while in sharpness, the Huawei Y6p gets the top spot as it just has one level higher in crispness.

Otherwise, all three performed well it just so happened that the Huawei Y6p is slightly crisper.

For selfies, the vivo y11 has an 8MP f/1.8 selfie camera while the Huawei Y6p and OPPO A5s have an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera. All three feature AI face beauty and screen flash.

Both the Huawei Y6p and OPPO A5s are noticeably sharper and with plenty of details compared with the vivo y11.

Like the rear cameras, the Huawei Y6p's white balance prefers the colder spectrum while the vivo Y11 prefers the warmer spectrum.

The OPPO A5s produces selfies that are crisper and with more accurate color balance.

Indoors, the performance is the same as in daylight selfies. The OPPO A5s produced the sharpest and most accurate color of the three while the vivo y11 produced the softest selfie with warmer tones.

All three smartphones have an on-screen flash with varying effects. The best selfie with flash was produced by vivo y11 where the noise levels were significantly reduced and the colors remained somewhat accurate compared to the other two where noise levels are so high that detail is lost and the colors are not as accurate.

In low light without flash, all three did not perform too well. All images are full of noise where the detail and color accuracy is lost. Huawei Y6p and OPPO A5s retained some sharpness but only the OPPO A5s had skin tones near to real life.

Lowlight is where all three struggled the most.

For videos, Huawei Y6p, OPPO A5s, and vivo y11 can shoot up to 1080p at 30 fps for both the rear and front-facing camera. All three don't have any form of stabilization.

Performance

All three phones are powered by 12nm-based chips. Y6p is equipped with the 2.0GHz 12nm MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor while the Y11 ships with the 1.95GHz 12nm Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor. The A5s comes with the 2.3GHz 12nm 64-bit Helio P35 octa-core processor. The 3 chips are similar in overall performance. SD439 has a slight lead here.

We played Call of Duty Mobile on all three smartphones and surprisingly all three have the same settings wherein the graphics are low and the framerate is set to high. Most of the graphic features like depth of field, bloom, real-time shadows, ragdoll, and anti-aliasing are turned off.

Overall, the graphics aren't the prettiest out there but the game's frame rates are consistently (40to 60+ fps on all three smartphones) playable even after a long play session. All three phones manage their thermals respectively given their price point.

In multitasking and storage, the Huawei Y6p (4GB RAM) effectively has 1GB RAM more than the other two phones' 3GB RAM and has double the internal storage at 64GB compared to the other two's 32GB.

The 3 phones are similar in speed, but only the Y6p has 4GB RAM and double the internal storage at 64GB!

OPPO A5s has a 4,230mAh battery while the Huawei Y6p and vivo y11 both have a 5,000mAh battery. All three charges with an included 10W charger through micro-USB.

Surprisingly even though the OPPO A5s has a smaller battery capacity, it is able to offer the same 2-day battery life of the Huawei Y6p and vivo y11 with constant Wi-Fi and data connection. The OPPO A5s remains to be one of the most battery efficient smartphones out there.

It takes around 160 minutes to charge the 5000mAh battery of the Huawei y6p and the vivo y11 while it takes around 130 minutes to charge the OPPO A5s with the included 10W chargers.

Connectivity-wise, all three phones feature WiFi, 700MHz 4G LTE, Wireless FM Radio, OTG, GPS, GLONASS, and dual SIM slots. Only the OPPO A5s connects via Bluetooth 4.2 while the Huawei Y6p and the vivo y11 connect via Bluetooth 5.1.

EMUI, FunTouchOS and ColorOS
EMUI, FunTouchOS and ColorOS

Running the show for the Huawei Y6P is the latest Android 10 with EMUI 10.1 while the OPPO A5s is running on Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS and the vivo Y11 runs on Android 9.0 Pie with FunTouchOS.

All three smartphones feature their own app stores. App Gallary for Huawei. Hot Apps/Hot Games for OPPO and vivo. Huawei features Huawei Mobile services while the other two smartphones have Google Mobile Services.

Huawei AppGallery
Huawei AppGallery

Aside from the Google Play Store, Huawei's App Gallery has become the third-largest app ecosystem in the world. These now include banking and financial apps like G-Cash, video streaming apps like Viu, food delivery services like Food Panda, communication like Viber, and thousands more.

If your favorite app is yet to be in the AppGallery, it is only a matter of time until it does. For now, it may be an inconvenience, but it will get better.

Y6p, y11, and A5s have good gesture navigation modes aside from the usual Android on-screen keys.

All three have fingerprint scanners at the back that perform a scan and unlock the phone quickly, accurately, and reliably.

Verdict

Huawei Y6p vs vivo y11 vs OPPO A5s
Huawei Y6p vs vivo y11 vs OPPO A5s

In terms of hardware power, the Huawei Y6p, vivo y11, and OPPO A5s performed close to each other as seen with the same game settings in Call of Duty: Mobile. While in Battery performance, all three were able to offer a 2-day battery.

What makes the Huawei Y6p stand out among the three is the larger memory capacity and the versatile rear cameras. While the OPPO A5s excelled with its exceptional selfie cameras and its long battery life despite a lower battery capacity.

But because the Huawei Y6p runs on the latest Android 10 while offering more cameras, RAM, and internal storage,  we think the Huawei Y6p offers the best value among the 3 if you are okay with the App Gallery instead of the Google Play Store.

Overall, the three smartphones were close to each other.

What do you guys think?
