Just a few years ago, finding reliable but cheap earbuds would be almost impossible. But, Baseus's Encok series showed that there's a TWS for every budget.
The Encok series |
Encok W07
Inside the box of Encok W07 |
The first item is the Baseus Encok W07 that arrives with the usual accessories like the charging box, the earbuds themselves, ear tips, USB-C, and some documents. The charging case is in pill shape design and made of glossy plastic material.
Even if it's lightweight, the plastic build feels durable. It has slanted bumps on the lids for aesthetics whereas the indicator is placed in front, on top of the tiny Baseus branding.
There's a tiny indicator that lights up when you open its lid |
There power button at the back also acts as a reset button and pairing button. Below it, you can find the USB-C port for charging.
A multi-purpose button at the back |
There were some problems at first when I tried pairing this TWS since my Android phone cannot detect it even the Bluetooth was turned on. But, I managed to resolve it by resetting the W07 as instructed by the manual. After that, pairing them is pretty easy.
You can pair these buds by doing a long press to the button |
The earbuds feature an in-ear design and they fit snugly because of the silicone tips. They can give an immersive experience since I can barely hear external noises when I'm wearing it.
In-ear design with silicone tips |
Aside from the comfortable fit, it has a great sound quality but not at par with those premium TWS. However, the audio is loud and clear enough, even at 70 percent of the volume. Bass is powerful so you'll enjoy sound trips especially for genres like EDM and hip hop.
What I like about these earbuds is the dual microphone feature since this is not a common feature for budget TWS. This is a practical function especially if you get or make a lot of calls.
The W07 is ideal for immersing yourself with music or making video calls!
Other highlights of these earbuds are dual-mic noise reduction automatic wear detection, double-tap function controls, and IP55 rating. It comes in two basic colors: Black and White.
Encok W04 Pro
The second TWS which is the W04 Pro is even lighter than the Encok W07 since the ear only weighs 3.5 grams. Inside its package, you'll see the charging box, product brochure, and the USB charging cable.Unboxing the W04 Pro |
The Encok W04 Pro comes with a rounded square case with curved sides. The matte finish makes it appear more sophisticated and it's more practical than the glossy ones. It's not slippery and it won't attract fingerprint smudges.
The texture of its casing feels premium |
You'll notice in front that it has four indicator lights for battery and below them is the typical Baseus branding.
There's another LED light indicator at the back of this charging case and that one indicates if it's charging. Above it, there's a button to know how much battery life the case has. There's no pairing button for this one because all you have to do is lightly tap one earbud and your phone will automatically detect them.
Pairing W04 Pro with your device is hassle-free
There's a charging port at the bottom for the USB-C cable. But there's another option to charge the W04 Pro, through wireless charging. It's an impressive feature for a TWS below PHP 2K since wireless charging is usually found in premium earbuds.
Port for the USB-C cable |
Baseus just proves that budget earbuds can have them also. You may find this wireless charging quite useful for emergency cases and your phone is capable of reverse wireless charging. But other than that, I prefer wired charging since it is much faster.
As for the buds themselves, they look a bit similar to Airpods in terms of appearance. The outside portion also has a matte finish like the casing but the inner part is glossy.
These TWS have a semi in-ear design |
For me, the semi in-ear design is ergonomic since it offers more comfort than the in-ear shape. Aside from that, it's good that they stayed intact even when I moved a lot when wearing them. They don't fall off easily even I was doing some chores.
For the sound quality, the bass in this one is not as punchy as the W07. But the good thing is, they still give clear and balanced sounds with minimal distortions on maximum volume.
There are also tap controls to play or pause the music but it lacks the infrared motion sensor that the W07 has. Note that it will continue to play the audio even you removed it from your ear so make sure to put the earbuds back to its charging case.
The media will stop playing once you put back the buds inside its case |
Other features of Baseus W04 Pro includes Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and IP54 rating so it can manage water splashes. It also has way more color to choose from lie White, Black, Pink, and Gray.
Encok W09
The last earbuds that we're featuring are the most affordable in this bunch. This is also made of plastic like the previous two, in a glossy finish. The box houses the usual items like a charging case, a USB charging cable, and a manual.Looking inside the box of Encok W09 |
The charging case is lightweight and square-shaped but with a rounded top.
The indicator is right at the bottom of its branding |
Its LED indicator is positioned on the front side whereas the charging port is found at the bottom.
The charging port is found below |
At the back, there's the power button but it lacks a battery indicator. I just prefer to have an idea if the battery is nearly empty but this is understandable for its price range.
I also noticed that Baseus put a metallic design on the lid's hinge, just like it did for the W04 Pro. It adds a classy touch to this plain-looking charging case.
The metal-like detail at the hinge |
The pairing process for this one is also convenient. You'll just have to remove the earbuds from the case then your phone will start detecting them. The earbuds both have LED indicators that light up when pairing.
The earbuds have a textured build that I think Baseus added to make them less slippery. They also feature a semi in-ear design so you can still hear external noises. I appreciate that they fit my ears quite well and they're comfortable to use for several hours.
The good fit of these earbuds means comfortable wearing |
Meanwhile, the audio quality of these earbuds is just satisfactory for casual listening. Compared to those two mentioned above, it lacks punch and clarity. However, this TWS can be handy for watching short video clips or doing phone calls. Again, you just have to manage your expectations with earbuds below PHP 1K.
Baseus Encok W09 also has features like IP54 rating, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and tap controls. It is available in four colors: Black, White, Red, and Green.
