Save the date: Here’s when the Sony a7S III will make its debut

  • Sony has confirmed the launch date for its a7S III camera.
  • It will be the spiritual successor to the a7S II which launched nearly five years ago.

Sony has confirmed the launch date for its upcoming professional mirrorless camera, the a7S III. In an update to its Alpha Universe news site, Sony revealed that the camera will be announced on July 28 at 10AM ET.

Beyond that, nothing notable has been revealed about the camera, but there’s an extensive rumor train with big numbers and tasty specs chugging around the internet.

Earlier this week, SonyAlphaRumors suggested the latest professional Alpha could sport a “simple” 12MP sensor or a 48MP Quad-Bayer sensor. For videographers, 10-bit 4K video at 120fps is also rumored, as well as 1080p at 240fps slow-motion video capture.

None of these specs have been confirmed by Sony just yet, but none seem markedly out of reach for the company either.
