Xiaomi is leaving the Android One project as it terminates the Mi A series. The Mi A series was popular for having a stock Android feel and competitive pricing.
Xiaomi Mi A3 will be the last in the Mi A series |
Goodbye Xiaomi Mi A series
You heard that right. Xiaomi will no longer manufacture pocket-friendly, Android One devices. That means that there will not be a Mi A4 anymore.
Speculations about the reason for discontinuation point to Xiaomi having trouble providing timely software updates to its devices. The Android One project aims to provide fast and longer update support to devices but the Mi A series usually gets them late.
The last one was the Xiaomi Mi A3 with a 6.08-inch Gorilla Glass 5 protected HD+ AMOLED screen, 2.0GHz Snapdragon 665 octa-core processor, Adreno 610 GPU, 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB UFS 2.1 storage, 4,030mAh battery, 48MP triple cameras, and 32MP selfie camera.
Xiaomi was not the first one to move away from Android One though. Motorola has been steering away from the program with its latest releases. The company opted for pure Android with some features added instead.
HMD Global is now the only major manufacturer that is sticking with Android One.
