In 2019, OPPO began teasing its 10x optical periscope camera technology. Through its official website's press newsroom section, the Chinese manufacturer reveals its next-generation Hybrid Optical Zoom technology equipped with what OPPO says is clear and lossless full-focal length image experience.
It features a new "stepped periscopic zoom structure" with a large 32MP Quad-Bayer sensor. The new module is made up of three groups of periscopic zoom lenses and a 7-element lens combination which provides what OPPO claims is superior optical performance and image resolution.
These lens groups work together to fix the focal point while the flexible movement of the two other groups of lenses moves to achieve the 85mm and 135mm equivalent focal lengths with f/3.3 and f/4.4 apertures.

Simultaneously, the large 32MP Quad-Bayer sensor combines the multi-focal length image fusion technology, multi-camera field-of-view alignment technology, and over dividing algorithm to extend the zoom to 280mm focal length coverage. In other words, the new sensor uses image stacking which achieves the 280mm hybrid zoom.
With this technology, and with the assumption that the main camera has a 26mm wide lens, this camera module will offer optical zoom from 3.3x up to 5.2x and will offer hybrid zoom at up to 11x zoom.
GSMArena also pointed out that a new Reno smartphone with a 10x zoom, 6.5-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, 3,945mAh battery, and 5G appeared on TENAA last month with a new periscope camera.
