Snapdragon 730G upgrade
The company claimed that it has an upgraded CPU and GPU as well as faster AI and accelerated performance to deliver immersive gameplay.
The SoC now uses a 2.3GHz Kryo 470 Prime core which is higher than the 2.2GHz of the previous-gen chip. It also sports an improved Adreno 618 GPU with a 15 percent improvement in graphics rendering.
The Prime and Performance cores of the chip are based on ARM's Cortex-A76 design. Te 6 other Efficiency cores use the Cortex-A55 process. The chip was fabricated using Samsung's 8nm manufacturing process.
Other features of the chip include the Snapdragon Elite Gaming for seamless and realistic gameplay with over a billion shades of color, 4th Generation AI Engine which is twice as powerful as the previous generation.
It also has a CV-ISP that enables 4K HDR and Portrait mode with real-time object segmentation, Bluetooth 5.1 with Qualcomm aptX Adaptive Audio and Qualcomm Aqstic, and WiFi 6 connectivity.
Still no 5G
The chip is still not like most more advanced mid-range MediaTek chips though. Sadly, Snapdragon 732G still doesn't come with 5G out of the box. It is still stuck Snapdragon X15 LTE modem unlike affordable mid-range chips from Taiwanese rival MediaTek.
We are extremely excited about the upcoming POCO smartphone and our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies that allowed us to create the first device on the market with the latest Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform, said Sam Jiang, head of products, POCO Global. We believe the device will set a new benchmark in the mid-range category, completely redefining the relationship between a phone’s price and its capabilities.
Qualcomm also announced that the new chip is coming to a POCO-branded smartphone first.
