We unbox the mid-range Huawei MatePad with a 10.4-inch display, Kirin 810, 7,250mAh battery, and EMUI 10.1 that starts at PHP 20,990.
Huawei MatePad |
Huawei has been releasing competitive tablets in multiple pricing segments in the Philippines for several years now. Recently, Huawei has brought the MediaPad Pro, MediaPad, and M-Pencil to the Philippines.
In this article, we share our initial thoughts about the new MediaPad from Huawei. It features a large 10.4-inch IPS display with a 7nm Kirin 810 octa-core processor, Mali-G52 MP6 GPU, 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB of storage, 7,250mAh battery, and Android 10 with EMUI on top.
The tablet retails for PHP 20,990 without the keyboard case and M-Pencil.
Let's take a closer look at the unboxing and hardware.
Unboxing/Accessories
Box inclusions |
The MatePad comes in a classic Huawei white box. Inside is the tablet, SIM ejector tool, USB Type-C cable, 3.5mm jack to USB Type-C dongle, and documentation.
The keyboard cover and M-Pencil are each sold separately unless you pre-ordered the tablet.
Build Quality/Design
Matte textured back |
Covering the display is a glass panel while at the back is a matte textured polycarbonate backplate. In the middle is a high-quality polycarbonate frame that is both lightweight but solid.
At the matte textured-back of the tablet are the dual camera module, Huawei logo, and the regulatory information.
You'll see an 8MP main camera with an LED flash and a microphone port while in front is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle selfie camera.

IPS panel |
In front is the aforementioned 10.4-inch IPS display with 2000 x 1200 resolution at 224 ppi that is surrounded by slim black bezels. These bezels also serve as areas where your fingers can rest when holding the large display device.
There is no mention if it is Gorilla Glass protection.

Top and bottom |
On top of the MatePad are two of the four speakers along with the power button on the right-most part. While on the bottom are the two other speakers and the USB Type-C port.
The tablet measures at 245.2 x 154.2 x 156 mm and weighs only 450 grams without a case. The combination of the curved sides, slim bezels, and 450 grams makes the MatePad easy to hold in one hand when needed.
We recommend using both hands or holding with one hand while you have the M-Pencil on the other.

As of the moment
With the case that doubles as a stand |
At only PHP 20,990, the MediaPad from Huawei looks and feels like compelling multimedia and light productivity device. It has a bright, vibrant, and responsive display.
The tablet is made of a combination of glass, metal, and high-quality polycarbonate which makes it lightweight while being solid. Hardware-wise, it is a tough cookie.
Kirin 810 is a powerful chip for mid-range Android tablets!
It comes with the Huawei AppGallery. It is the third-largest app ecosystem in the world. If you need help with finding an app that you need, you can use the Huawei Petal Search.
Our only concern with the tablet is that it does not have access to Google services and apps.
What do you guys think?
