New 0.7μm Samsung ISOCELL sensors
Is this the future of Samsung devices' cameras? |
These are the 108MP ISOCELL HM2, 64MP ISOCELL GW3, 48MP ISOCELL GM5, and the 32MP ISOCELL JD1. In terms of image sensors with really high resolution, a 0.1μm difference per pixel brings a significant difference. The new Samsung sensors are up to 15 percent smaller than the 0.8μm sensors. It is also 10 percent smaller in height giving smartphone companies the capability of manufacturing slimmer devices in the future.
The 0.7μm image sensors also use advanced ISOCELL Plus and Smart-ISO technologies especially designed for them. These technologies allow them to collect the right amount of light to provide high-quality images.
The new 0.7μm lineup:
- The 108MP ISOCELL HM2 is the third 108MP sensor from Samsung. It is now physically smaller than its predecessors. It also has Super PD which is a faster and more reliable PDAF solution and a 9-pixel binning technology as well as 3 x lossless zoom.
- The 64MP ISOCELL GW3 is the image sensor that you can expect to see light in more devices than the HM2 sensor. It uses Tetracell and Smart ISO technologies for bright images and vibrant colors. It also features a gyro-based EIS technology for sharper still photos and steadier videos. It will also support 4K video recording at 60 FPS.
- The 48MP ISOCELL GM5 is designed for telescoping or ultra-wide-angle cameras. It can be used as a 5X optical telescoping sensor for folded zoom. For ultra-wide angles, it offers a faster and more efficient HDR technology which features faster image processing.
- The 32MP ISOCELL JD1 is the world's smallest 32MP sensor at just 1/3.14 inches. It is going to be most likely used for selfie cameras for bezel-less displays. Its small size allows it to sit comfortably under the display. It also has staggered-HDR technology as well.
The ISOCELL HM2, GW3, and JD1 is already in mass production while the GM5 is still being tested by Samsung.
