vivo is developing an RGBW sensor that captures more light than Huawei's RYYB sensors

vivo earlier announced that the company is developing its own image sensor. It's an RGBW color filter array sensor that promises up to 160 percent more light capture than traditional RGGB sensors.

The possible low light sensor to beat?

vivo even made a bold claim that the new in-house sensor that it is developing could collect 40 percent more light than the RYYB sensors that Huawei normally use on high-end smartphones such as the P40 Pro+ without being prone to color casting issues.

This tech is could be similar to what Sony used in the past on some of its Xperia cameras.

The issue before? Shots from RGBW sensors have reduced resolution and colors. But, vivo said that the company has managed the issue through the use of advanced algorithms.

This could be the modern-day processing to improve colors and overall picture quality of RGBW shots.

vivo said that the tech is still under development and we should see it in the second half of 2021.

Let's see if what vivo is claiming is true.
