Extensive Huawei Mate 40 Pro leak leaves little to the imagination

  • The Huawei Mate 40 Pro has been detailed in an extensive new report.
  • A more P40 Pro-like display will join a redesigned rear camera array.
  • The Huawei Mate 40 RS also broke cover, featuring an octagonal camera array.

Just days before its official launch, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro surprise has been spoiled by a comprehensive report from WinFuture.

Per the publication’s findings, the Mate 40 Pro will look nothing like its predecessor. It’ll weigh in at 212 grams, measure nearly 163mm long, and 9.1mm thick.

Upfront, a Huawei P40 Pro-like pill cutout will reportedly house a 13MP selfie camera with a 3D sensor alongside it. The latter will reportedly enable gesture support, but should also give the phone face unlocking smarts, too.

The 6.76-inch display may still feature tapered flanks, but the waterfall screen now sports physical buttons on its right side. Screen resolution stands at 2,772 x 1,344 and houses an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Around the back marks the biggest design tweak. The purported camera array ring resembles an iPod click wheel and houses a 50MP primary camera with f/1.9 aperture and OIS support. A 20MP wide-angle and a 12MP zoom sensor are also set to feature. Laser autofocus, a color temperature sensor, and an LED flash also feature.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro: Kirin 9000 at the helm

Finally, let’s talk about the internals. Per the report, the Mate 40 Pro will be powered by the octa-core Kirin 9000. Huawei’s last high-end Kirin chipset is notable for its design, too. The chip features four Arm Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.54GHz, three Cortex-A77 cores also clocked at 2.54GHz. Finally, a single Cortex-A77 core is clocked at 3.13GHz.

Variants with up to 12GB of RAM will reportedly be offered to users in China, while other international markets will have to settle for 8GB models. As for storage, 256GB UFS 3.1 features but users will need Huawei’s NM storage card to expand that.

All this is seemingly powered by a 4,400mAh battery with 65W charging support included. NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 support, and Wi-Fi 6 support complete the wireless tech lineup.

The Mate 40 Pro won’t launch with Google services, nor will it debut with Android 11. Instead, Android 10-based EMUI 11 makes the cut along with Huawei Mobile Services.

While the WinFuture report doesn’t shed light on prices, Twitter tipster @Rodent950 does. The Mate 40 Pro will reportedly come in at €1,100, which would match the 128GB Mate 30 Pro’s price at launch. Europe may also be limited to black and silver colorways.

The tipster also apparently revealed the rear design of the Huawei Mate 40 RS, too. As spotted in official reveals, the phone is set to feature an octagonal rear camera array with five shooters.

The 50MP sensor will feature once more with a 20MP ultra-wide, 8MP optical zoom camera with 3x reach, and an 8MP zoom camera with 10x reach. A ToF sensor will complete the lineup. If it does make it to Europe, the Mate 40 RS could be priced at €2,500, the tipster adds.

Huawei will launch its new flagships on October 22, so there’s not too long to wait for specs, pricing, and availability confirmation.
