Huawei Y7 Unboxing and First Impressions
Meet Huawei Y7

It is a handset that highlights a curved rear back cover, 6.26-inch HD+ notch screen, 14nm Snapdragon 450 octa-core chip, 4,000mAh battery, 13MP + 2MP dual-cam, 8MP selfie cam with flash, fingerprint scanner behind, 4G LTE, Google Mobile Services, and the ever-improving Huawei Mobile Services with AppGallery.

The main highlight of this device is its large 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage that is rare at this price point.

Could it be the one for you. Let's take a deeper look!

Unboxing/Accessories

Inside the box

Huawei Y7 comes in the familiar white packaging with a render of the phone in front along with branding. Inside the box is the phone, 5V/2A Charging brick, SIM ejector tool, jelly case, earphones, USB Type-A to micro USB cable, and documentation. There is a pre-installed screen protector on its screen too.

Build Quality/Design

Back side
Backside

The Huawei Y7 is made of a combination of premium polycarbonate, glass, and glasstic. In between the glass and glasstic back is a premium polycarbonate frame that is solid yet lightweight.

The glass panel in front and the glasstic panel on the back curves on the side to make the phone easier to hold but both are fingerprint magnets.

There is no mention of glass protection and water resistance. Putting the included case in the package should prevent your phone from getting damaged from accidental drops. The pre-installed screen protector is a welcome plus as well.
Front side
Front side

At the back of the Y7 are the dual rear cameras, fingerprint sensor, Huawei branding, and regulatory information. While in front is the large 6.26-inch HD+ IPS display with a notch on top.

Budget phone with premium look

On the upper-right side of the bezel, you'll also see a neatly hidden soft light LED flash. On top of the notch, you can find the earspeaker.

The phone measures at just 158.92 x 76.91 mm despite the 6.26-inch display due to its slim bezels and notch design. At 8.1 mm, the handset is also considered as slim.

At the top of the device are a single microphone port and the 3.5mm audio jack while at the bottom are the two speaker grills and the micro USB port.

On the left side of the phone is the SIM card tray while on the right side is the volume rocker and the power button.

The design is consistent with Huawei's line of affordable smartphones. It weighs 168 grams.

Initial findings

1. The display is a 6.26-inch 2.5D curved IPS screen with a 1520 x 720 resolution at 269 ppi. 720p is still acceptable but it would have been great if it had a 1080p panel. The panel supports up to 10 points of multi-touch but it is not mentioned if it is Gorilla Glass protected.
AnTuTu and Geekbench scores
AnTuTu and Geekbench scores

2. Under the hood is the 14nm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a large 4,000mAh battery.

The internals were able to produce a score of over 90K in AnTuTu, 148 in Geekbench's single-core score and 860 in multi-core tests.

It isn't the highest chip at this price point, but it offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage which is seldom at its price range.

The 4,000mAh battery with the chipset and 720p display is expected to last all day. The included charger is a 5V/2A charges through a micro USB port.
EMUI 8.1 based on Android Oreo
EMUI 8.1 based on Android Oreo

3. Running the show is EMUI 8.1 based on Android Oreo with Google services. This means that it is one of the few newly released Huawei phones that has access to Google's ecosystem. BUT, it also has HMS and the Huawei AppGallery.

There is no word yet if it'll be updated to at least EMUI 9.0 or 10.0 yet. Let's hope.
Camera app
Camera app

4. For cameras, it has a total of 3 cameras. The rear dual camera set-up is made up of a 13MP f/1.8 main camera, a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor camera, and an LED flash.

Included camera modes include Aperture, Beauty, Photo,

There is no ultra-wide camera, telephoto camera, macro camera nor is their Night mode. This is acceptable given the price point, but there are some devices like the realme 5i has a better camera set-up for the price.

For the selfie camera, it has an 8MP f/2.0 shooter on the notched display. It supports Aperture, Photo, video and Beauty modes. It is also impressive that it has a selfie toning flash.

5. At the back of the phone is a fingerprint sensor. The Y7 also supports GPS, GLONASS, dual SIM, and Face Unlock.

The best monopods for photography

Amazon Basics 67 inch Monopod

Finding the best monopods for photography is no easy feat. These come in all sizes, weights, prices, and constructions. The idea is to get the best bang for your buck and figure out what is better within your budget. We are here to help and have compiled a list of our favorite monopods for photography.

The best monopods for photography:

Editor’s note: This list of the best monopods for photography will be regularly updated as more products launch.

Why should I buy a monopod?

Monopods serve a similar purpose to tripods, but they do so in a smaller, lighter form factor that is much more portable and convenient.

Monopods have two main purposes. These tools provide stability for those times when hand-holding a camera just doesn’t cut it. This could be when using a slower shutter speed, for example. Using a monopod can provide enough stability to reduce motion blur. A monopod can also be used to help compose images from difficult angles, such as shooting from up high. Some people even use them to get down low by letting the camera hang upside down and simply fixing perspective during editing.

1. AmazonBasics 67-Inch Monopod

AmazonBasics 67 Inch Monopod for photography

A monopod is ultimately just a stick that can extend and has a mounting screw in the other end. Certain products get fancier and those extra tools can make a difference, but some of us prefer sticking to the basics while saving some money.

The AmazonBasics 67-inch monopod will do just fine for those who don't need all the bells and whistles.

The AmazonBasics 67-inch monopod will do just fine for those who don’t need all the bells and whistles. It weighs under a pound, has a non-skid rubber base, and can carry up to 6.6 pounds of equipment. It even comes with a carrying bag!

You will see a lot of this brand in this post of the best monopods for photography. This is because Manfrotto is one of the industry leaders in tripods, monopods, and other photography accessories. And while Manfrotto is known for its high prices, this monopod is quite the steal.

The Manfrotto Compact Aluminum 5-Section Monopod is only a few bucks more than the AmazonBasics monopod, but it offers a sturdy and lightweight aluminum construction and an overall better-looking design. You can’t expect miracles from it, as it can only carry 3.3 pounds, but it carries the Manfrotto branding and prestige, which is substantial.

5. Berlebach 112

Berlebach 112 2 Section Monopod for photography

The Berlebach 112 2-Section Monopod makes a statement, but you will have to make some sacrifices.

Edgar Cervantes

Artists tend to have a certain level of appreciation for craftsmanship, and I happen to love my rustic products. Nothing gets more traditional than wood, which is why this will serve as more than a simple stabilization accessory. The Berlebach 112 2-Section Monopod makes a statement, but you will have to make some sacrifices.

This wooden monopod comes with no bells and whistles. Height reaches from 39 to 69 inches. At the end you can find a steel spike that turns into a rubber anti-slip tip.

6. Benro Aluminum 4-Series Flip-Lock Monopod

Benro Aluminum 4 Series Flip Lock Monopod for photography

Benro is a lesser known brand, but they make great products at affordable prices. The Benro Aluminum 4 Series features a 3-leg locking articulating base, which you commonly only see in high-end monopods. And while this version comes with a flip-locking mechanism, the company also offers a twist-lock version.

The Benro Aluminum 4-Series is a lot of monopod for the cost, offering pro-level features at an affordable price.

Edgar Cervantes

Maximum height is 64.6 inches. Weight starts to suffer, even if made of aluminum, as this monopod is 2.4 pounds. It can carry up to 44.1 pounds, though, which is quite surprising and takes this Benro monopod to a whole other level. This is a lot of monopod for the cost, offering pro-level features at an affordable price.
