The company didn't specify the exact details of the cores, but the listing from the AI benchmark showed that it comes with 1x Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.58GHz, 3x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and 4x Cortex-A55 cores.

The chip also comes with the Mali-G77 MP8 GPU and Kirin 990-like Dual NPU (Big-Core + Tiny-Core) + ISP 5.0 unit.

Kirin 985 also has 5G support and it is the 3rd Huawei SoC solution with built-in 5G. It uses a single-chip 5G baseband with the multi-mode capability to support 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. It also has NSA/SA dual-modes and a downlink rate of 1277 Mbps and an uplink rate of 173 Mbps.

Versus the Snapdragon 865 with separate Snapdragon X55 5G modem, Kirin 985's 5G has up to 40 percent better uplink and 75 percent better uplink rates.

Also, Huawei claimed that it has up to 1.5 times better energy efficiency ratio that Snapdragon 865.

Based on benchmarks, the handset is slightly better than the Kirin 820 5G, but it is lower than the flagship Kirin 990 5G. But, it is faster than the Snapdragon 765G.

Huawei's new chip is expected to power several upper mid-range Huawei and HONOR devices. Yesterday, HONOR unleashed the HONOR 30 with Kirin 985. But, it is better than Snapdragon 765G.

The upcoming Huawei Nova 7 is also expected to be powered by the said chip.
