Better Mobile Video Experience than ever!
The data is from a trusted independent mobile analytics firm Opensignal. The report revealed that Globe registered improvements on 3G and 4G networks for videos based on a YoY user data comparison as of end-June 2020.
The improvements are a result of Globe's aggressive full-scale network upgrades which includes fast-tracking of cell site builds, switching to 4G LTE in all its cell sites and towers, and rolling out fiber lines nationwide.
Globe's improvement in Mobile Video Experience is also impressively higher than the worldwide average of 14 percent among 180 telco operators worldwide.
Mobile Video Experience measures the quality of real-world video streams. This is an important metric for Filipinos who are heavy social media users. Also, during the quarantine season, we saw a rise in users who use online streaming platforms like Netflix, iflix, HBO GO, and YouTube for entertainment.
Apart from videos, Opensignal added that Globe's Latency Experience improved significantly by 15.8 mobile speed (ms) between Q3 2018 and the last quarter of 2019. Latency Experience measures the typical delay a user experiences when connecting across an operator's network.
Globe also noted that it supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), particularly UNSDG No. 9 which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
In 2020 alone, Globe allocated USD 1.2 billion (around PHP 63 billion) capex to improve its network.
